0 sheffield show 1968 anyone know the low loader is it a berliet?

I don’t recall FGs with such a long wheelbase. Quite remarkable.

It has the front end of the military Berliet but the cab will have had some work done to it as the military version had a soft roof. Franky.

I believe it is a Berliet. And I think it does have a canvas roof too.

Sneaked past the border guards again Oily . Sitting watching the boats in Bernie harbour .

That’s brilliant rigsby you’ve made again, it’s been a while since the last time.
Cheers

Didn’t think I’d make it again Oily , but number one son is the driver now so all is well . Good to be here again though .

Yes, I spotted the length of the FG Series lorry, I dont remember seeing an FG that length. Cheers, Ray Smyth.

A slight change of subject which I thought may interest you on the other side of the planet.
A change by the station we were to load at to pm loading a couple of truck drivers and some ringers [stockmen] decided we would take a 4wd Toyota ute and do some bull running unfortunately the bull chosen had other ideas.

A stretched caravan-transporter perhaps?

Simple really, six wheelers carried more passengers although in Reading they were later replaced with front entry four wheelers probably due to the turnarounds at both ends of route 17 being quite tight.

Pete.

Well that one seems to have duals on the rear, and with the single 2nd axle inboard, that wouldn’t help with passenger numbers, but if that is the case why were the diesels not 6 wheelers too? Or were they, some of them?

BTW, I can see with that driven axle set so far back why they had problems with a tight turning circle.

The axles were both driven with offset diffs and all had single rear wheels, Sunbeam/Karrier and AEC chassis were all much the same mechanically. Seating capacity of Reading’s six wheelers was 68 compared to 64 on the four wheelers, they were also 8 feet in width.

A history of Reading Corporations fleet here, I must have ridden on all of them many times! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolleybuses_in_Reading
