Oily
Thank Oily! That just about covers it then: a re-cabbed Mandator badged as a Matador. I was close to the mark with ‘bitsa’ then , even if it is a factory one! Here’s the caption under the picture in your link:
Ian Fordyce’s A.E.C. Matador Mk III (chassis 2472 004) ex-Sydney County Council and now painted in the maroon and cream livery of Banoon Electric Light Co. It has had a new cab as the original was beyond repair. Wooden cabs do not survive well in the Australian climate making trucks like this very expensive to repair, so there are not very many AECs from this era left. Nominally a Mandator, some exported type 2472s were badged as Matadors. (Steve Parrinder)

Chris says it may be a Maharaja and Dave says it could be a Matador. If it’s a Matador - and I must say that looks to be what’s written on the radiator - why hasn’t it got a front end diff?

Before the war Matador was a 2wd haulage chassis for drawbar work.

I like the Seddon 4 wheeler, looks smart. Were they any good? Would they have had a Perkins in that era?

Hi Larry,
It’s Derby Road in Nottingham according to this
And still there now, though the shops have changed ownership.

Wollaton Park Gate almost opposite, there used to be a small police station there I think, where I produced my documents a day late, back in the mists of time.
And also opposite a big new building, was that where Ford and Slater used to be? (Gazsa?)
The Rose and Crown next to that was where my stepson had his wedding reception and I got a kiss from my new sister in law, much to the chagrin of her husband who hated us for running off to Italy in a White Trux lorry.
Spot on there Spardo it was Ford and Slaters later on it became a IVECO dealership
The Rose and Crown was mentioned in my local Newspaper last week The Nottingham Post it’s going to be refurbished
Cheers Gary
I remember Morton’s doing a lot of tractors years ago.

Dad drove a similar one and that had a Leyland engine.
