Real horsepower,[ My dad grandad and great uncles].Dig
A great family picture Dig.
Thanks to Punchy Dan, coomsey, Buzzer, servo88, DIG and essexpete for the photos
Brill photo DIG, takes me back to my youth and I look at the five horses and think what would that equate to in mechanical pulling power, some more powerful built than others and according to this thezoologicalworld.com/how- … orse-have/
the power for a draft horse is equivalent of approx 15hp, so that team would generate about 70hp.
I gave the photo a wee tweak for more detail.
Cheers

Hi Punchy Dan, looking at the telescopic sections on the crane, that’s going to have a fair reach.

A 1954* built Seddon 4x2. Trailer built in 1937
With single axle mobile Post Office/Showroom.
re registered 1983
1 of 3 originally built and the only survivor.
The other 2 where lost in separate incidents.
What a free for all at Dagenham! Even got what looks like a funeral on the wrong side of the road.
Looking at the picture of the working horses thought I would put a couple on from my family,
The first one from the mid sixties, myself and my Grandfather with Silver the last horse he owned. Grandad chain smoked John Player Specials.
Second one from sometime after 1909, Grandfather with hearse dressed for a local funeral.

Geordielad:
- DVLA records this as 1954, other lists this as 1957 built.
It’s based on Seddon’s Mk8 with the fibreglass cab which came out mid 50’s so I would think the 1957 date is the correct one, 1954 may just be too early. Franky.
Cheers Franky.

Thanks Oily the tweak does the trick.
I remember my Grandfather telling me that the team of 5 horses couldn’t pull the heavier loads up a hill in the village so another team was walked down to meet them and hook on regrettably no photo of that event.
