They always looked not finished to my eye, as if they were all still in primer. Are they still going, and with the same logo?

Monday morning entry, Buzzer

This Leyland Beaver MUM 289 was seen at the " Stand up for Southport " show on Sunday 10.10.2021.
When it was new in the 1950s, it was one of many specialist lorry and drawbar trailer outfits with
bodywork containing X-Ray equipment. Leyland Beaver MUM 289 is owned by Peter Kenrick who
was once a part-owner of Jarvis Robinson Leyland Beaver ADM 354. I have attached a picture of a
Leyland Beaver showing an example of the original X-Ray equipment bodywork.

The story that I heard Mr Suede was that R.H. Stevens started off as the Pink Paraffin suppliers around the Macclesfield area in the fifties but I am sure that somebody can tell us the exact date if it’s true.
I remember two lots of Paraffin men coming around our area in the fifties, one was The Aladdin Pink Paraffin man and the other one was…bom, bom, bom, bom Esso Blue.

Here’s an advert from 1956 for the launch of the Pink paraffin delivery service in East Lancashire.
Introduced by Shell-Mex and BP, it brought paraffin right to the customer’s door. The companies introduced the delivery service as another way to make life easier – instead of going to their supplier, it meant delivery men brought it directly to the consumer.
It advised: “You can order your Aladdin Pink paraffin just as you order your coal supplies and it’s brought right to your door, promptly, regularly and in whatever quantity you want.
“Pink paraffin is the finest, most economical and recommended by more manufacturers of heating appliances than other brands. Use Pink in your heaters and it costs less then 1d an hour.’ The first jet fuels were based on kerosene or a gasoline-kerosene mix, and most jet fuels are still kerosene-based.

I thought the same Pete but I’m guessing he’d have had to go over the weigh bridge?

Great memory joggers with the pink paraffin vans Buzzer, I can remember my old Nan having a pink paraffin heater in her kitchen, I’ll post the photo in the Bedfordshire section.

And the Esso Blee Dooler, as we called it.

Fourways Quarry, Cheshire. Probably 21 tonnes on there, with my six wheeler I struggled to get my weight on with sand as the body wasn’t big enough really!

Pete.

Re mentioning the Pink Paraffin Aladdin Pink or Esso Blue usually refers to asking visitors what kind of gin they would like to drink especially as the usual Bombay variety comes in a blue bottle and could easily pass for Esso Blue. Aladdin Pink is drunk in Raffles Hotel, Singapore along with monkey nuts in shells, tradition states the shells must be dropped on the floor.
I am not sure what variety of paraffin this tanker is dispensing on domestic delivery at Sliema, Malta in 1981.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Re the J & D Walker of Strathkinness AEC Marshal Major JAV 854F here is a photo taken at a vintage rally held at Warwick Bridge near Carlisle a few years ago when it was owned by Tillside Haulage, Chillingham Barns, North Northumberland. My guess is that it is an ex T & M Catto lorry and a frequent visitor to the Sands Lorry Park at Carlisle back then. Perhaps Oily was parked alongside some nights along with numerous other Aberdeenshire fridge vans at that time.
Cheers Leyland 600.
