Great selection today Buzzer!

Re the austin brs van I drove one like this in 1967 for erics ice cream in leicester as a holiday job it had a four speed box unlike the similiar morris vans that had 3 speed. When I drove this it was about 15 years old

The Austin version, sold as the 101, didn’t appear until the model range had been updated in 1957 with the introduction of the Morris JB. The earlier Morris-Commercial JR which had the three speed box, sidevalve engine (same as the MO Oxford car) and slightly shorter wheelbase was then discontinued, there never was an Austin version as it predated the Austin/Morris merger.

Before my time there but the garage I was apprenticed to once had a JB as a stores van, apparently it was often overloaded taking engines etc to the various branches and eventually the propshaft wore a hole in the body floor!

The Rowe Hillmaster is an interesting truck. Nicely designed and unusually spacious cab for a British truck of the fifties. Can’t see though if this one is fitted with an underfloor engine or not.

Hi rigsby, There is a fish processing plant in Dingwall formerly The Edinburgh Salmon Company(Thai owned) which closed down 2018 and was opened up again under new ownership in 2020 the Loch Duart brand and seems to be going well again, quite a few “fish” wagons including continental about Dingwall again.

Father drove lorries for a builders merchant, sometimes he’d have a rush job in a small van. When I was little, I was out with him every chance I got. I remember he picked me up in a J type one day, while we were out it caught fire. Something metal had dropped across the battery terminals. He put the fire out, just as well as his firm used to pack everything in straw and there was plenty laying in the back, would have gone up well!

Nice to see the late Arthur Duckett with his Rowe Hillmaster. He ran 2 of these . Arthur was something of a local legend and ran a variety of vehicles over the years, including Belaz/Kraz tipper on the reconstruction of the sea wall in Burnham on Sea… just up the road from Arthurs abode.
Towards the end he could often be seen tearing around in his smart 4 wheeled Saviem animal rescue ambulance, which gave way to a equally smart little Mercedes. Arthur passed away after his 80th ,commemorated locally with a large billboard poster of Arthur stood with a huge bull called the Colonel .
I have a Corgi model of his Guy Warrior Light 8,obtained at a bargain price.!

The old Mk 3 AEC looks a mighty beast, ready for owt you threw at it.It might even be a two stick motor.
Why is it us ‘more mature’ old lads want to turn the clock back and do a shift with a vintage motor?
