Cracin pics. Liking the load restraint on the concrete pipes, couple of ropes front to back, jobs a good un.
Also the washing line reminded me of an incident in Rocca Canavese years back but thats another story. Sorry for the rambings
Yes, think I would have done a bit more than that but we have to remember that load of pipes is from Stanton and they would be well chocked and nailed to the floor. However, as I have been going on a bit about Stanton recently, nice to remind me of Beardings, regulars in there and I think one of the firms who worked exclusively there, day runs and running back empty each time. Sometimes in time to load again ready for the next day.
What were they called back in the old days? B contract licences or something?

Morning Buzzer.
Nice photos once again.Onatra were from Marseille IIRC and in early 70s used to come into BSC Chemicals Orgreave Sheffield and load pitch in tippers. They had from memory long nosed tractor units which I think were Renaults and the drivers were nearly always accompanied by their families.Spardo David will know them I’m sure.
I think either the tractor units had trilex wheels or the trailers, not sure.I remember they were a friendly lot and some could speak a little English, and one took a interest in my MK5 AEC Mammoth Major.

Onatra bonneted Berleit of that era Chris.
Oily
Thanks for that Oily.Yep,that looks about right and probably Berliet rather than Renault,I just cannot remember which. They didn’t hang around either.
At first I thought that there was something wrong with the door handle, on closer inspection it turns out that it’s a 1:24 scale model… off to specsavers… nice model by the way

Hi, The Smiths Crisps factory on Long Lane in Aintree, Liverpool was exactly the same. Cheers, Ray Smyth.
Morning.
The Steel Peech and Tozer Leyland Octopus was one of a few Sheffield Staniforth Road BRS contract wagons. They were double shifted taking limestone from Buxton area into SPT works at Templeborough,Rotherham.SPT would later be under the BSC banner.

SPT motors came into ICI Tunstead every day Chris , the Octopus had side discharge doors for unloading . They later had artic trailers with two bins that were lifted off for unloading . That would be in the 60s and 70s . Templeborough was a regular drop with bagged hydrated lime , 10tons all handball , kept me fit !
