how do i renew my passport without surrendering my exsisting one as doesnt expire for awhile but it is almost full of stamps and need to travel weekly
I wrote a letter explaining why I needed to keep it as I am in the same situation, frequent foreign travel.
There is a work round, apply for a second passport, ask your employer (ahem
) to write a letter explaining you need a second passport due to the time taken for visa applications and you can’t travel during this time. The usual stuff, earning money, keeping my business working etc…
I can send you my letter if you want?
Cheers
Paul
Make a personal appointment at a passport office for a renewal, you should get your new document over the counter in approx four hours.
All the info you need re appointments and urgent renewals is on the .Gov website

Message will stay in outbox until recipient opens it. Bit confusing but that’s how the system works.
I’m actually someone who has 2x 80 page? passports acquired via the employer route (me when I was S/E) They have different passport numbers and expiration dates but both are linked to me. So I can’t get around the Schengen 90/180 requirements for holidays by using them alternatively, and getting caught doing so would likely result in me being fined and banned from the Schengen zone for up to 2yrs.
The 2nd passport application has to be done the same way as applying for your original 1st passport, ie you supply a photo notarised by someone of importance who knows you and you fill in the extra section 10. This isn’t normally filled in for a standard renewal
iirc renewals you fill out sections 1,2,3&9 of the form
1st and duplicate 2nd you fill out sections 1,2,3, 9 and 10
If your filling up your passport with stamps I suggest that you buy the bigger version

This summer I needed a new one quick and went to Newport and instead of 4hrs “Due to COVID” the quickest they can do is 5 days. Loads of services are still using that line for an excuse.
Just done this for my daughter at Durham. Not cheap, but worth it for the sighs of relief at actually having the ■■■■ thing in her hands!

Four hours or five days■■?
Tyneside
Five days for us, but four hours was offered.
I am really confused here.
A passport remains valid after you applied for a new one untill it expires, you can have two passports!!!

2 x 80 passport via employer route■■? If you need a bigger passport you can apply for one, costs £10 more!
The point of having two passports is due to the amount of conflicting countries ie: Israel and Arab countries where there’s a chance of being refused entry into the country if you have a passport stamp from the opposing country. Then there are situations where when you apply for a visa to visit a country on business can take 6-8 weeks to process, meanwhile you still have to travel for work and need a passport for it to happen. This is why in these scenarios you have to accompany the application with a letter from your employer stating that without a passport you cannot do your job. The two passport scenario is also used by people who travel around the world for extended periods of time to enable them to travel abroad and apply for visas in other countries. However in recent years the passport office is clamping down on people applying for a duplicate passport due to the abuse of the passport system.
The more pages in the passport allows for more passport stamps, this was never a problem before Brexit as passports were not stamped, but post Brexit they are stamped so the pages fill up faster, so obviously when you travel for work you will accumulate more passports stamps.
Not being in the Schengen zone means that the dates accumulated by the overlapping passports renewal dates has caught out many who don’t realise they need a minimum number of months remaining on their passport to travel to their destination

Yes, that is correct.
My oldest passport expires 2024, my other one expires 2030.
I do make sure I use the same one all the every trip, then when the time comes, I will change to the other one and apply again.
I must admit, the next one might be an 80 page version due to the current stamps needed.
