Anybody here ever bring passengers to work in their lorry for the day . Everyone I know says they can’t take passengers for insurance reasons .
Not allowed, but I’d love to take some of the office staff out & make 'em call their own office (without success)
When I was delivering in Blackpool, I saw a chap in PJ’s with crutches limping along in the rain. Stopped to ask him what he was doing, he needed to get to the doctors which was only round the corner. He hopped in then I dropped him off outside the doctors office. It was pouring with rain at the time as well.
One of my kids had been to Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium and all over the UK before he was ten years old, in fact he took this snap of me getting nicked in Turin.
I used to take the wife every now and then… but not anymore.
Dad used to take me, but then when I started driving, I used to take him.
Been in jobs where not allowed passengers, still I’ve took them a few family members and friends who were actually excited about it.
As long as you know where you are going and can get away with it lol

I’ve got to take two of our office bods out for a day each in February next year. Looking forward to that as they will get a sense of how it feels in the cab for a day.
But I’m fairly sure that getting my ears bent over the phone all day like they do is no fun either.
Oh and if any of my friends and family asked to come out with me, I would give them a slap and say “don’t be so silly”

Why?
This insurance malarkey is just a get out.
I have seen our company’s insurance policy and it states ‘passengers can be carried with the owners permission’
In my opinion this is exactly were the whole of the haulage industry has gone wrong no wonder drivers are not coming into the game today.
I always looked forward to the summer holidays and going with my dad in his lorry all over the country by the time i was 15 i knew my way around the length and breadth of the county.
If drivers could take their kids with them today it would breed a new generation of eager youth who in gaining geographical and practical knowledge at such a young age would more than likely be eager to become lorry drivers later in life.
my boss lets me take my son or the mrs , make me son do any handball jobs.
I got done for doing it. I, too, got told “Your passenger is not insured - imagine what would have happened if they’d come a cropper?”
And yet insurance “magically appears” when a manager orders a casual out with you as a “drivers mate” for the day, despite there being doubt over their “right to remain” etc.
Insurance can’t be “on” or “off” on a manager’s say-so. Imagine the paperwork that would be involved?!
My argument didn’t impress though, and I got suspended without pay for a day by way of punishment.
Some other geezer who actually assaulted the same boss I had at the time - It took 6 weeks to get rid of, so one wonders if there is actually anything left that can get you sacked “on the spot” nowdays…

It may be company policy not to allow passengers, but even if you breach company policy the passenger will still be insured, it’s a legal requirement that they are and this cannot be over-ridden by the haulier or the insurance company.

A great point. Might be a partial reason of why so few people want to enter the industry now. They are not getting the bug early on
