Could any one help me im going to spain next week taking my wife and child not been to france and spain since 96, how would i stand if i was to be stopped by the authorities and the child of 9 was sat on the bunk unstrapped,
as far as i know every passenger in spain must have seat belt, whether or not guardia civil stop you is a different matter as they are very occupied at the moment with all the arabs going through spain to morrocco
maybe vasco can answer as well but think its 1 seatbelt 1 passenger oh and every passenger must have yellow vest

Regardless of the use of seat belts (of which France seems to be keener), I am pretty sure that every passenger must have their own seat.
And in Spain I beleive every person in the vehicle has to have a access to a high viz vest■■?..might just be another rumour though!

I’m fairly sure that one’s correct bullitt.
I seem to remember something about it coming in as law, a few years ago.
Looking at this thread important for those running to or via spain, the Spanish authorities like nothing better than issuing large fines for the slightest offence. Sometimes even an invented offence.
In France it is law that you must be wearing a seat belt before you start the engine.

100% correct every passenger must have their own seat and seatbelt.

If an accident was to occur the child would be catapulted straight the windscreen like stone and more than likely killed in the process as a parent this is not something that I would even consider
i was only asking about the law side of things,
Just to add a theoretical question, when a truck is double-manned, is it illegal for one driver to have a snooze in the bunk while the other is driving? This would seem to fall foul of the seat belt laws but I believe it is fairly common practice.
just chuck a ratchet strap over him and strap him down on the bunk
You could also of course put one of them in the Trailer seems to work for the illegals don’t see them getting fined for no seat or belt
gone

I have heard of a few getting fined for it.

I would, because I would consider the odds of such a scenario occurring to be so small as to be outweighed by the fantastic experience available to the OP, his wife and child.
Many on here know Little Harry, who is looking forward to another trip away in the Summer Holidays. Although he does have a seat and a seat belt, he would still be far safer left at home. I just think wrapping your kids in cotton wool is far more damaging to them.
But we’re all different, and I can fully understand if somebody didn’t feel comfortable with exposing their child to that risk.
So to the OP, safe journey, and don’t forget to hide the little 'un in the top bunk if you get stopped by Le Filth!

Years ago I have done it and if the traffic then and the general mentality of road users was the same then I would probably do it.
But these days you see just too many idiots or monkeys with a licence who just have no idea whatsoever how to drive that I would not even consider anymore
I’m with Harry on this one. Over the years the number of kids I’ve met up with, having a ride with their father, uncle or whoever and without exception, all have had a great time. The whole adventure of traveling abroad, experiencing different cultures along with sleeping in the truck has stayed with them for years.
Wives and girlfriends though, that’s another story.
