Passenger seat removal

Quick question, I want to put a microwave in the passenger side of my Mercedes’ actros big space , is there any legal requirements to have a passenger seat ? Or can I remove it .
Thanks in advance.

How big is the microwave, that you need to take the seat out.

No, you can remove it if you want. Volvo used to sell a tractor unit back in the 1970s/1980s, an F88 maybe, that had a kitchen complete with cooker, sink and running water where the passenger seat would be.

You don’t need to.take the seat out, just buy this Daewoo model, it fits snugly in any Craptros top cupboard.

The QT1 is getting difficult to get hold of as it’s an older model

Already bought a microwave for the truck from Kuda for that model Mercedes’ but you have to cut a big chunk of the locker away and the give you a facia price to cover it up and I can’t return it because the mechanic dented and scratched it trying to get it to fit so I’m stuck with it.

General observation here, but if you remove anything that’s part of a SRS system, like may be built into a seat, then it will trigger a fault detected by the ecu startup test, and maybe even render it inoperative for the drivers side. But it’s been a couple of years since I’ve had a merc so can’t remember if it applies here.

The model I have was the only microwave on the market I could find to fit those ■■■■ stupid shallow lockers, …I had the wife doing ‘market research’ on it.
You can buy a fitting bracket that goes above the passenger window, but they are a ridiculous price as with anything else truck related. :unamused:

Thread hijack. Sorry.
I’ve put my microwave in the vast center locker of ‘my’ DAF ssc which fits with loads of room left for other stuff. Problem is, the big lip at the bottom of the locker door stops the microwave door opening. What are you DAF drivers using to raise the microwave up so the door opens unhindered but doesn’t allow it to ‘wonder’ around the locker?

I remember in the 90s our firm hired in a tractor unit that didn’t have a passenger seat, apparently as standard from the factory. It was made for one man use only to maximise the space where the pass seat was, the boss referred to it as a single cab or solo cab (or something along those lines). Can’t remember what make it was (poss renault) or even what it had in place of the pass seat.

When I had one the fitter at work made me two L shaped brackets that lifted the microwave above bottom of locker, there were holes in side of microwave I could use to fit them and then just screwed them to locker floor

Renault Premium? The one with the bunk that doubled as a wide couch that kind of bent around to where the passenger seat would have been.

Why not just mount it on a piece of flat wood just thicker than the lip on the cupboard,.and screw it to the bottom of the cupboard…job done.

Rings a bell, do you know what the cab was called?

Nah not a clue mate, I just remember one day sitting in one having a cup of tea with the driver who I knew at the time.

Now I think about it I recall having a unit for a day in my agency days that didn’t have a passenger seat as such. Instead it had sections of the bunk at that end of the cab that folded somehow to create a seat. I know I tried it but didn’t like it as I was sat in the back corner of the the cab, not next to the window. Don’t think there was a seat belt but not sure. I think it was a stralis of some description, but it was a while back.

The Stralis with a seatback you hooked onto the back of the cab had a seat belt.
It was a pretty poor seat for a passenger though. No side window and so high up you had to crouch forward to be able to see through the windscreen.

Don’t remember any with no passenger seat, but we had some Scania tractor units with full sleeper cabs where the passenger seat was against the back wall of the cab. I think the back folded down to complete the bottom bunk. Loads of room to stand up and walk around in the bit where the seat would normally have been.
