Passed my Category H (Tracked vehicle) test today

Hello,

If anyone’s interested in doing a Cat. H (Tracked vehicle) driving test course then I recommend you go to Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedford - I’ve just completed a 2 day course and walked away with a Pass!

I only mention it as it’s not very well publicised, especially as I’d been trying to find somewhere for over 3 months without any success!

The course costs £587.50 (inc. VAT) and the training you get is blimmen good Value for Money - not just covering test requirements, but they get you to drive their entire (well, almost!) off-road technical routes covering all sorts of gradients, road surfaces, clearances and etc.

The driving instructor that does it is also a test driver for the site, so he really knows what he’s talking about…and he doesn’t snap!

I had a lot of fun doing it and I might even book a day’s course again just so I can have another drive in it!!

I hope this posting can benefit someone,

Richard (Cat. H approved!)

CONGRATULATIONS

Sounds a lot of fun Richard!

Perhaps I’ll have to book myself a birthday present next year
Congratulations on passing!

Alex

Well done!

Got my group “H” as a tank driving instructor on Chieftains in the army. It’s come in handy a couple times since.

Thanks - just gotta wait and see if passing the Cat. H will also give me Full Entitlement for Cat. G (Road roller) as both of these categories are kept on the same line (i.e. Appearing as “GH”, similar to Categories F, K and P)…if not then I’ve gotta do another one!

There’s a company currently adapting their yard to accomodate for the Cat. G, and the Cat. F (Agricultural tractor) and should be ready by March - so I’ve got a couple of months to save up for the G test ‘if’ passing the H test doesn’t give me the G as well…which would be slightly annoying, but never mind.

Just curious (and slightly jealous), but what are you hoping to use it for?

  1. I did it for a laugh…an expensive laugh I’ll give you, but that’s me!
  2. I like driving big vehicles, and this was big ‘and’ different all in 1
  3. I have a grand master plan for my future career!

Well done Richard, said you’d enjoy it.

Sorry - I completely forgot to PM you!
