Passed my Artic test today

Paul Gloria Meadows:
I passed mine almost two years ago with 2 minors also. Just remember that you have only been taught to pass your test. You will learn to drive a truck a little more every day your out in one.

My top tip is, dont be afraid to ask advice. If your not sure about something, find one of the ‘old boys’ and ask him to help you out. Don’t get me wrong, some will tell you to do one but most are more than willing to give you advice.

Well done and welcome to the world of having no life at home if you end up tramping. (yes, I’m bitter. Lol. But I do love my job.)

I remember when I 1st passed my C+E, I’d been driving class 2 a short while, and went to 1st job, and it was a reefer on a bay, the boss said “that’s your unit, get it under that trailer, you’re taking it to Bellshill - DO NOT forget to set the suspension on the trailer before you pull out or it’ll wedge in the guide bars”…
2 mins later, me: “'scuse me mate, how do I alter the trailer suspension”

Yep, definately a learning curve. From the dinky toy you learn in, to a 45’ long 16’3 double deck trailer… All is great. Then you get to your destination and it’s “put it on bay 7” - between those other 2 trucks with all the day lads darting about trying to get out the gate 1st or fueled or whatever… Hell, that reverse slowed them ALL down, 15,000 shunts, taking all the yard, red glow from in the cab - double check, yep night light’s turned off, it’s just me glowing red with embarrassment…

Ahh, the memories

davhems:
what were the two miners doing were you dropping them off at the colliery

He ran them over leaving the yard, you get an instant pass if you get 5.

Was 9 in total, got 5 on the way out and 4 on the way back, SPARE!!!

Done that as well, and the best bit with an Artic is you’ve a way of getting splits

Whirlwind:
Gratz drive ! now the learning begins

Oh yes. VERY true

Well done mate.
Memorise the “Ferry” “Chalk marks” and “Landing gear” stories. You’ll get the idea.

Well done c10, you won’t regret it. I passed my Class 1 at 21, first time we called it!, I had to…although I don’t drive for a living.
My Dad was a drive, and I my hero too. The usual, used to go with him everywhere I could.
I still remember sitting on the windowsill waiting for him to pick me up…all day sometimes…and when the Goodwood green Zephyr 6 came round the corner, (look it up!!) I realised … not today.
Atlas Express, Hunnable Concrete Company, British Gas, he eventually ended up with Ferrymasters, driving a Volvo F86.
He passed away when I was 11…
I chose a different career path for one reason or another, but still have my licence and have driven (and still do) some great trucks for some great people…but that’s another story…stories?
I, like all the other posters here, wish you well… and all the best for your future.
p.s… sorry for hijacking your post!

thanks, my grandad (now 82) was a driver for Mcalls in Glasgow, in fact he still does a bit of casual, my dad is a driver and has been all over the place, used to go with him whenever I could and more recently my cousins are both drivers, it’s in the blood.

Congratulations on passing your C+E , & a Good score too

Looks like I got a break, local company are going to give me a few runs, see how I do.
