Thats it, the final flipin test done!! 100% so went well. Interesting that the dolly knot is no longer a requirement to know anymore! typical after a forked out for some rope at the pound store to practice also the ratchet strap just goes through the ratchet once where as the you tube video showed it going though twice on an older set. Anyhow none of those matter because they didnt bring the trolley out!
Make sure you get you`re hands dirty on the drugs/trafficking question checking all gaps and showing them physically as well as just telling them and its not too bad.
Going to put my c.v forward for a few agency’s next and see how that goes.
On a side note the guy doing the pre-training was a bit depressing saying you will never get rich doing this and adverage is £8-9 an hour and there isnt any shortage like they thought there might be in fact he said there was none. Not what you want to hear but it wont stop me trying and looking. Going forward I am looking into Hiab and a fork lift licence too as this may help my options. I dont want to fork out class 1 till i`m actually working!

He wasn’t lying though. You can make good money at it but not as an employed driver.
Well done, all I’ve got left is mod4 just waiting for a date, will watch the youtube vids. Handy to know the dolly knot isn’t required, I’m crap at knots!
Katea:
biker how many questions did you get asked? I got mine on Friday.
Well done btw!
you will get 5 questions mate one out of each section, I probably went a bit OTT but everytime I got into and out of the truck I mentioned the 3 points of contact and making sure the way is clear. Just use the truck as a guide to go through everything! and they give you a check sheet which you are alound to take with you that will cover most of the areas. Remember to check the reversing lights as well when doing the brake test. You will have to tell them how you would do a “rolling” brake test too as you dont actually do it. You dont actually get into the rear of the truck either just expalin for an imigration/drug check you would get in and do an all round check and check the roof if its see through or stand well back to check the roof. Dont say “I could get a pair of ladders!” the instructor said someone said that and they said “well go on then, get your ladders!” you have to “train the examiner” as if they know nothing and you are actually going to be going out on the road that day.

yep the two main you tube videos are good, obviously dont worry about the dolly knot. Rope is now only for coverings like sheeting not for restraint as no one knows what load a rope can hold. The rachet on the you tube if I remember goes through the barrel and back up and over, its nothing much but the new ones just go straight through and thats it. I turned up half hour early and he started preping me straight away. It was all fairly straight forward, if anythnig goes wrong just dont panic thats what they dont want. At times everyone will get somethnig wrong like dropping the strap or seperating the chain becasue you turned it the wrong way just make sure you correct it and dont leave it till you are happy and put everything back where you found it safely. Other than that revise all your questions and you are laughing.

I know, Im not expecting to be a millionaire but would like to push towards my current salary of £25,000
Initially Im going on agency and probably will earn £8- £9 but im only doing this at weekends for now. Later on in the year I could take a drop in wage if needed but for now im in no rush so i`mnot in a bad position. I will continue to do my training and study. Looking at the other courses later on in the year like the Hiab that might give me more agency hours. We will see lol
Thanks Biker, good luck, I will probably do a bit of weekend work for some experience too (hopefully), as I’m not looking to change career yet. I have some small ratchet straps for fastening demo equipment in my Vito so will practice more with those! All the best.

You’ll be able to achieve this much easier in my view if you go on to do your class 1.
you are probably right I know its going to be a needle in a haystack but there is work at class 2 level out there for that money but obviously most will go to experienced people. I have one contact who takes on new drivers with that sort of wage so I can wait on that. As it stands I have a few quid to pay off first. I cant put in another £1500 for class 1 yet. In June im debt free so potentially if needed I can take a pay drop to get started. I am very careful these days financially. I got myself in a right mess not long ago and had to downsize house to get me out of it so im not going into debt again
my current job isnt in a bad position at the minute so im very lucky. I am going to use the next 6 months for further study on the industry and if something comes my way then great. For now at the very least I have a back up plan if my current job goes south.
