Passed class 2 & fed up!

Well I passed on 17.1.14, which I pleased about but can’t find any work! I’ve registered with 3 agencies but not heard anything off them. Called them daily, no joy. I’ve even been door knocking local companies in the Widnes area and nothing !

You need to be registered at more than 3 agencies so you get them to work for you.
I’m with 5, awaiting 3 more processing my forms and seeing another 2 Monday. I’ve had work and had to refuse work as well due to attending interview this morning. That was from constantly turning up and asking if any work going.

You just need to keep doing it and if necessary go further afield. I was only looking locally now that’s expanded to within 30mile radius, if nothing I’ll consider 40.

Just keep plugging away !

Do you mean you passed 17.1.15?

meaning 6 days ago?

Otherwise I find that incredible you haven’t recieved any work in over a year!!!

pm me i know a firm not to far that will take you on, i went there after i passed my class 2 and they offered me a start there and then

Yeah I’ve been passed a week now, I may been wanting it too much, but I’ve heard and been told that there is loads of work out there?? I am registering with another couple of agencies next week.

Thanks for the your post deltawing I’ve PM you so get back in touch

a week aint that long tbh. Just hang in there and something will turn up

I thought you were a year which did surprise me as well

Bear in mind agencies take a week to register you on their database after chasing references etc.

So a week isn’t going to produce miracles. My first job with them took 3 weeks after pestering each once a week to see if anything .

Btw must have got licence back quick, DVLA improving ! You have to show it to agency before they’ll give you work under their insurance.

Keep getting your name down as I’ve said at as many as you can, something will turn up.

Sorry to sound abrupt but what did you expect … people and company’s falling over themselves to take you and your shiny new plastic card that says I’ve passed … :open_mouth:

27yrs ago I pass me class 1 with 7 years doing van 7.5t multi drop nights out general work and it still took over 6 months for someone to take me on and even in them days there weren’t that many agency’s. lots of door knocking dropping cv’s etc off I eventually got my break in General haulage.

No assessment just a short interview and start Monday out on your own no-one to show you where how or what you were doing .
My 1st job with a family firm class 1 was taking a 40ft flat with 24 metal boxes stacked 2 high roped to collect 24 boxes filled with waste paper which I had to net and rope bring back to a waste paper place tip reload and go back out for a 2nd load then return tip reload ready for the next day …

All I’m saying is it’ll take time fella and you need to be prepared to take the ■■■■ to get experience but don’t sell your soul just to get that bum on a seat .

Good luck

Bear in mind also that it isn’t the best time of year to be finding trucking work. After the Christmas rush the tradition is for the work to tail off for a bit apparently, and that might create some slack in the supply of drivers - even with an alleged shortage. Companies might then tend to stick with the agency drivers they already have to keep ticking over rather than taking on fresh talent.

If the agencies you’re signed up with don’t have contracts with companies who take new drivers then you won’t be getting work any time soon. Most of them should be honest enough to tell you if they can place rookies, and if they don’t just ask them directly.

10 agencies is 7 to many when they offer you work and you say i’m busy with another one they won’t ring back, join 2 or 3 find out which have work drop the ones that don’t and find another one.

Longer term I’d agree but just starting out I chose that many as limited offers for new passes .

Once work builds up you can drop the ones who have been quiet.

Out of the 5 I’m with only 2 consistently offered work and I always tell them my availability taking into account any work booked. 3 actually encouraged me to register with others to have more chance of filling a week.

But yes if you know who are good agency’s then stick to them. I don’t so went for overkill to get work in.

But keep looking and applying for permanent work as well, I ignored the must have x yrs experience and applied anyway

A WEEK? Calm down a bit. You have zero experience so lots of companies wont even entertain you as such a new pass with no experience. You need to just keep plugging away with every company you can find. Someone will eventually give you chance.
Best advice I can give you is
1 - Avoid the big boys. By all means apply but they will usually go with experienced drivers.
2 - Yes try agencies but they will struggle to get you work with no experience. Most of their clients will want drivers who can jump in the seat and instantly know what to do. Not realistic but its what they want!
3 - Have some patience. Like you when I passed I was chocking to get going out on my own. I was a right moody [zb]. But after 3 months I got a job and when you have that start it gets much easier to find the type of job you are after.
Just wait till you pass your artic test. trying to get a job on them with no experience can take months,if not years unless you get really lucky

After I got my class 2 it took me around 4 months of constantly phoning, emailing, knocking on doors etc til I got my chance. I was signed up with 7 agencies and not a single one found me any work in that time. You just need to be patient and keep applying :sunglasses:

I suppose it depends where you’re at. Has your licence even returned from the DVLA yet? Took mine about 2 weeks to get back. The first day I passed my module 4, I went to an agency in Ellesmere Port, signed up with them, 2 hours later they rang me up with a job. Granted, the job ended up being a complete shambles, but I did get offered work the same day. Infact, every agency I went to, I got offered work within 24 hours of signing up with them. All but 1 place in Oldham - I never heard back from them. The area is the North West (Liverpool)

Stick with it, buddy. As others have said, things seem to have quietened down a fair bit since the Christmas rush is over, it will no doubt pick back up over the next few weeks or so.
