Hi all, happy to say I passed my Cat C yesterday on the first try. Chuffed to bits! Now I’m looking to get into work asap so I can start racking up some real-world driving experience. Anyone able to offer some job hunting tips in the Wiltshire/Oxfordshire area? With no experience (yet), is it likely that only agencies would consider hiring me or is that changing these days? Thanks in advance folks!
Congrats pal!
You’ll get a start via agency, but it’s likely to be hard donkey work that others with experience don’t want. The alternative is to go and knock on doors armed with your work gear and CV. If you look at previous threads you will see that early morning when drivers call in sick is the best time, as they may be desperate enough to give you an immediate start!
One tip though, agencies can be a good thing for a fresh Newbie, as it’s most likely that if you’re going to have an accident, it will be in the first few weeks of driving. So getting a couple of months driving under your belt on the agency, could possibly stop you blowing a local dream job… Not saying you will have an accident, just that agencies will use you, and you can use them back!

Yep! Thats what i am starting next week. Delivering for B & Q , Homebase etc. Washing machines, Kitchens etc but need to start somewhere
Congrats mate! I start my new job in a couple weeks driving 18t on pallet distribution for a local haulier. Got my start before I got my licence and dcpc and managed to get it because I was driving one of my dads white vans out of their depot for a while and built a good relationship with their depot manager who is happily willing to give me a chance. Don’t have any avenues like that to explore do you?? Know any drivers that could put a word in for you?? Otherwise whats suggested above should yield you something. Good luck chap
Thanks everyone! I’ll follow the advice about agency work. Sounds like the best plan, will try to get some miles under my wheels before looking at my options again. Cheers to all for taking the time to reply, much appreciated.
