A problem to rest areas on motorways could be that the ■■■■■■ would move in and claim it.
The Human Rights part might just be a Government enforcing rules that cannot be complied with due to lack of parking but you know the score…parking laid and opened if soemone can make millions out of it,or it won’t happen.

The provision of lorry parks is a matter for the private sector and local authorities, who are best placed to judge local conditions and needs.
However DfT is having discussions with local authorities, developers and the industry to explore what can be done to improve lorry parking and disseminate best practice.
In November we published the report of a study by consultants AECOM. It details the provision and use of lorry parking facilities in England and the extent of inappropriate parking in lay-bys and industrial estates. It also compares the situation in neighbouring authorities, thus illustrating possibilities for co-operation in providing parking facilities and enforcing restrictions. It should be of use to both local authorities and developers
The Government’s position on facilities on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) in England is set out in DfT Circular on 01/2008. I announced on 22 June 2011 that I was introducing a change to the policy to permit the the development of truck stops on the motorway network.
I also instructed officials to consider ways to reduce regulation, increase competition and improve still further the quality of service areas on the Strategic Road Network by those elements of the policy that may instead be better determined at a local level through the planning system.

WTF! It looks like this ■■■■■■■ has taken this as a complaint against parking lorries in “inappropriate parking areas such as LAY-BYS and INDUSTRIAL ESTATES” FFS.
What a ■■■■ he should realise that the backbone of this country is its transport system and get the balls to push for making it work, instead of following the nimby idea of “We want our shops full of everything we want but we don’t like lorries down our way” .
I didn’t see it like that. I saw it as he was backing MY point up, when I wrote to HIM saying they were inappropriate.
Cut,Paste,Print,Post…job done!
Hey BigVern,
a word of support from me.
Well done mate. Like another poster said, you actually did something about it and wrote to somebody about it. Thats about 100% more than what I and thousands of other drivers have bothered to do.
Thankyou for that, I appreciate it.
Unfortunately whoever sent you the reply is a typical politician. Nothing in between his(her) ears. Just ‘Oh I dont understand all that macho lorry stuff and its not politically useful to me or my mates, so lets write a bit of poshly worded stuff to shut them all up’.
I think I will spend a week or two drafting a letter or email to send to my MP and maybe the local council about this subject.
I’ll keep you posted mate.
Thanks again,
