Parking Weight Signs

UniqueHaze:
I was told the only weight restriction area I could go through is one which is part of a test route and the weight restriction has only just been placed

what people are getting at though it wasn’t your independent drive so he should be telling you what roads to take as your not psychic and you don’t know what the test routes are. doesn’t matter about a newly placed weight restriction as that would be BS if the examiner didn’t know about it

UniqueHaze:
I’m based down in Kent, I took my test in Gillingham. I don’t actually know where I was when I happened to go wrong though. I kind of felt something wasn’t right as I’ve been around the Medway area alot in the past week and never been up that road for obvious reasons of the weight restricted area.

can you give any idea of where you went from?? i live and work in Kent so know it fairly well

Oh yeah I know, to be fair he seemed to be marking me on little things I hardly thought I done wrong. He said that I done the reversing exercise to slow aswell…

Saying that, your allowed to shunts and to look behind you once while doing it, if you take one shunt should you get marked on it? As I somehow got 4 minors for taking one shunt and I was always looking about and stuff :S

In the end I failed with another thing as I got ■■■■■■ off with a unfair fail so basically gave up, wasn’t happy with it after spending £1550 last week for training then for this to happen! So I don’t think I could appeal for anything now. Also I have no idea where it was so I can’t get the street name haha

also who the hell has the cheek to charge £1550■■? 2 years ago i paid £910 for my class 2 an then £910 for my class 1. that company still only now charges £995

No idea lol, all I know is I left Gillingham test centre and arrived back about an hour later haha

My price don’t sound as bad now seeing as I done 6 days. I’m only 20, but as I’ve said driving the lorry I can do fine, just stupid things which made me fail the test

He will tell you to follow the road ahead, until he says different, the OP may have passed a 7.5t advanced warning sign before a turn off with a no waiting/parking restriction on it, which he would have been able to use, as said no one can really help without a location of the road, the examiner is within their rights to do something like that, just to check that you are being observant, nasty trick though.

First you say you don’t know the name of the test centre, then just a few minutes later you say it was Gillingham. This is a wind-up, isn’t it?

There’s a couple of places in Plymouth like it, the examiner will say follow the road un till I say otherwise, If you do you will go into a 7.5t limit so have to make a turn before you get there. As said above there must have been an advance warning sign you missed, so he told you to take either exit as you had no choice as all ready failed from missing a sign.

I can’t say I saw the sign, if the sign was there then yeah I’ll take full responsibility for the fail, but I’m not all that bad for not reading the road signs especially when driving a thing like a lorry! End of the day I can’t change the result, just got to see if I can afford to re take or face the fact of losing £1,550 on training and the test

you’d have still saved yourself £340 if you had shopped around a bit as they would’ve charged an extra £100 for 6 days i believe so with the test it could’ve been £1210

I think you need to wake up and be more observant of road signs which apply to the type of vehicle you are driving. If the examiner said to you to take the next available turning on the left which signs would you be looking out for which would possibly apply to your vehicle?

My examiner tried to send me down a no entry road on my class 2 test.

I stopped the tuck and said I can’t as it’s no entry. He said ok, take a route you can take.

I still failed the test as I hit bloody pole on the reversing manoeuvre within the first few minutes. :unamused:

Even if your examiner did go wrong, you still have to retake the test, they won’t just give you a pass, so you may aswell ■■■■ it up and use it as a learning experience.
You now know what the test involves and can be extra prepared for next time.

Did the road you come down have a weight limit ? All the way round the roundabout and back up the same road !

^^^^^. This. Perhaps the examiner was attempting to simulate a scenario that you would possibly encounter as the holder of a nice shiny licence! You gotta think on your feet whilst doing this job, why should the test be any different?

UniqueHaze:
but I’m not all that bad for not reading the road signs especially when driving a thing like a lorry!

Quite the contrary, driving a lorry is a major reason why you should be reading EVERY road sign. One of them might just be for you.

Just based on reading all the op’s posts on this thread, I think the fail was the correct decision. The attitude isn’t one of taking constructive responses of which there’s been many, just a constant defence that isn’t all that convincing
Sounds like you’d be better off jacking in trucking and get back to your other job :grimacing:

This.

The tests changed and they now say something like “Take me towards the town centre” and you have to chose a safe and legal route, like you would in… erm, hang on it will come to me… oh, that’s it! “The real world”

If you come to a roundabout and it is signed 8’ low bridge, would you take it? Of course not (I would like to think :unamused: ), double back and find another way.
