Parking trailers on the road side and the law

Greeting!

Today I have been (ill should I put it) adviced that to park a trailer on the road side

  1. you need to have a number plate atttatched to it even when the unit has drop the trailer off and the trailer is now solo
  2. you are only allowed to leave it there for no more then 2 days

Anyone clarify please?

Thanks

Can’t remember a tri I’ve saw left on industrial estate , lay-by having a reg plate on it , I’d of thought it would be the first thing you’d take off it

2 days , it might be the law I’ve no idea , but I’ve seen tris left parked up for weeks , there was one near our old yard that was there for nigh no n a month then suddenly disappeared.

I’d of thought unless your blocking entry to a yard etc no- one would be intrested , neighbour rang up about a car abandoned outside his house and according to him they wernt intrested

Anyway is it loaded ? Whats in it , where are you parking it , probably can help you not to worry about it being parked for 2 days with info above :joy::joy:

Assuming an LGV trailer? Not a light trailer.
Assuming you mean on the public road? Not a private road on an industrial estate.

No need for a number plate. The trailer has an ID number welded onto the chassis.

The trailer must be road legal if it’s on a road. Test, tyres, etc all legal.

Any vehicle left unattended could be reported as abandoned to the local council, and be towed away. Local councils vary on how they do this.
It may not be enforced all the time, but vehicles (including trailers) over 1,525kgs must be lit at night. That means approved lights, generally the actual lights on the trailer, not a separate battery light. (That would be nicked anyway)

He’s back ! another spiffing wheeze, no doubt with the assistance of Matty, to dump this pile of rust. Will it still have the home made towing attachment fitted?

I do know that if I ever needed to park a truck on the road or in a lay by at night I’d leave its side lights on.

Dropped unlit trailers or unmarked drawbars are a hazard which the driver can be liable for.
