Parking in or near Dungeness

Anybody know of any decent spots round this way ?

Well, there’s pretty much nothing at Dungeness, except shingle. Certainly there will be nowhere with facilities so if you want those then it’s the airport cafe or Ashford truckstop. If you don’t, then I imagine you can park pretty much anywhere on Dungeness headland.

I’ve never been down there, it did look abit desolate on the map.

And even more desolate in the flesh

You could try ringing the Oasis cafe which is just past Derek Linch’s yard on the A259 between Brenzett and New Romney to see if they wil let you park overnight.

There’s a couple of lay bys either side of the oasis cafe. Can be full of flip flops if you hit them at the wrong time though

Through the wonder of Google, I’ve found a photo of a truck parked at Dungeness. Little steam train in the background, look

And another view, the lighthouse is where the first photo was taken from. Seems you can park a Routemaster bus there too.

^^
3663 delivering to the RHDR station cafe?

The layby nearer to New Romney is about 3/4 mile from the Town centre where there is at least one decent pub.

If you decide to drive through the town to see what it is like then you should be able to do a U turn at the Sainsburys roundabout.

You definitely have to pick the right weather to go down there but I like it if the sun is about!

Cheers guys, I’ll probably try and stay somewhere different if I can help it. 9 times out of 10 I never make it where I intend to anyway.

I wish I knew how to do a double quote :unamused: . What Cav and Jay said from me too. I wouldn’t advise parking where the bus is at the station cafe. You might have the estate police moving you on

I stayed in the layby just outside of Camber Sands, you couldn’t get any closer to the sea unless you actually parked on the beach!

No private security company can make you move your truck if you are out of legal hours without involving the police.

No, but they may well be wondering why you’re parked so close to a nuclear power station!!

You can park on the industrial estate in Station Road, New Romney which is within walking distance of all amenities, not that there are many!

I thought Dungeness was coal fired. I remember having a tour of Dungeness B when I was little.

Dungeness A and B have always been nuclear. A is now decommissioned but B is still operational. My in laws lived just up the road, so I know the area well.

Really? I think I was about 4 or 5 at the time of the tour.

I’m certain. Have a look at this link…

I always think it strange when people talk about “the overpopulated south-east”, that the most south-easterly corner of the UK is as remote and deserted as the wildest wilds of Scotland or Wales… Personally I could quite happily live in one of those fishermens’ cottages on the shingle.
