Parking in Naples

Would it be sensible to park up near the NATO/USAF air base in Naples.Or any other suggestions. On trucknet some drivers use the USAF air base near Ramstein in Germany. Can they enter the air base to use the cinema/bowling alley/supermarkets/cinema/KFC/pizza hut facilties as a guest visitor.?

They do not use the USAF base at Ramstein they use the truckstop there which happens to be just about next door

try looking through this LINK-ITALY

ALSO try transtop web site as they have lots of information as well

what about parking direct by your customer , if you can might be better,

I don’t know if things have changed, but unless you can park where you are tipping or loading and those premises are very secure, i.e. 20 foot walls with barbed wire on top, guard dogs and 24 hour security, DON’T park in Napoli. To be on the safe side, park at Caserta services before you hit the tolls. ■■■■ dodgy place, as I found to my cost.

The Mafia control Napali. I’ve only been there once and parked-up two service stations north on Saturday (truck didn’t get touched) and drove in on the Monday to clear customs, (that’s how long ago). Anyway rush hour traffic was a nightmare, nobody took a blind bit of notice of traffic lights, junctions were gridlocked and it was every man for himself. I didn’t get cleared the first day and two trucks got hijacked in the customs compound that night. I emptied a cafe out on the second morning after constantly looking out the window with a worried expression, keeping an eye on my wagon. I think the natives thought I was worried about a hit. After getting cleared and tipped I parked up on the sea front waiting for reload instructions and watched a couple of cars getting robbed and some bloke waving an Octopus at the traffic hoping to sell it.
Things may have changed but even a secure fenced off CCTV area guarded by dogs and an armed guard is only secure if the Mafia don’t want what’s on your truck.

The Yanks certainly won’t let you park in their base . I tipped swinging beef US Napoli & the next drop was nr. Brindisi ,another US base .I parked on the services an hour before Brindisi .In the middle of the night the trailer was broken into I hightailed it to the base. They refused me entry until I told them I was going to drop the trailer in front of the base & sleep somewhere safe in the unit & in the morning their beef would be miles away. They eventually let me in .I cut this story short but you get the drift.

Were you empty ?

Yes i was empty. had to wait for load bound for Roll Royce in Bristol I was paid well for waiting and paid over the odds for dellivery  Just a shame all jobs aint as well paid as that one :unamused:

If you’re empty the Mafia are not interested in RHD trucks so you can more or less relax .

True, just so long as they know you’re in a RHD. I was in a RHD and empty, had curtains closed, but they didn’t notice the extra mirror over the top of the left door or the fact it was a 6x2……. :open_mouth: :unamused:

They love nicking Swiss trucks, empty or loaded. Swiss owner drivers in schtum with payments would get a load to Italy go for a coffee & claim on the insurance. They had no deal with the mafia but it was a guaranteed job .
