Parking in abnormal load bays!

I have just pulled into charlock Richard services with a trailer at 62ft, there was plenty of spaces in the normal parking area but I can’t park there because the trailer would block other vehicles from getting past! Yet the long load bays were taken up by 7.5t and 3 orange supermarket wagons! If I was pulling in there for an overnight stop are they allowed to move?
I just asked them to so I could have a break and they all said no!
My question is what would you do in this situation?

If possible, block the ignorant/retarded gits in. It must be as annoying for you as I find car drivers parked in unloading bays (including blue badges) and as I found yesterday, van drivers parked up against loading docks too high for them to be of any use.

go see the servive station manager and see what he/she suggests

if part of movment rder take that in with you also.

worst thing about having more than 45ft behind you parking is very limited especialy if on amovment oirder as cant go looking , stopped in newport pagnell other day and try park on the outside so dont get blocked in but as normall full of drivers who cant be arsed to parkin a bay thenyou role inwith a 90ft trailer and they all look t you gone out they are put in place for a reason :unamused:

south mims is a favriote for all the flip flops parking inthe holiding areas around the truck park

Start taking photographs of the vehicles with their registration numbers and send the pictures to the orange lot, the address will be on the cab door.

We have continuous problems at Toddington Southbound. I have had three ab-loads tailing back into lane one because some truck driver don’t want to work an extra 20 yds. At Toddington, the ab-loads can’t go in truck park because they can’t go under the tunnel. It’s just laziness.

I’ve done plenty of abnormal load work and i just stick the thing next to them.
I’ve never done it overnight, But i know someone on here that has.

I once had a breakdown and had to use an abnormal load bay, I just made it into the services. And as you might expect, An abnormal load pulls in ten minutes later. The bloke went on a bit of a wobbler, But i just explained that i can’t go anywhere and he should just park next to me while he has a break. I got my lorry fixed and no harm was done.
This was exceptional circumstances, Not what i’d normally do.

I had to get one shifted from Charnock Richard last week. If they refuse to move and you have a movement order then just block the lane and call the police.

just park beside them on the road and have your break and when they come and ask you too move too let you out you just return the compliment.

They won’t give a monkeys. They aren’t going to spend time worrying about getting one non paying driver on a 45 to move, so that another non paying driver can have his 45. If you were a coach driver trying to get in a blocked coach bay with 50 passengers on board all ready to buy £5 sandwiches and £4 coffees, they might be more interested.

It’s just down to drivers to show a bit of courtesy rather than the ‘im alright jack’ attitude, in the same way you shouldn’t park in the middle of an empty layby, or have a break on a shared loading bay.

Courtesy went out of fashion for many a while ago though.

Well because I have to extend the trailer even if I did use the bays I wouldn’t be able to get the swing to get back out if someone parks next to me!

I’m only 27 so still a pup and still learning so I thought I’d ask!

We go to Harlow and we get the same at toddington as it is next to the car park!
There are 2 long load bays at charnock and the one furthest away had a lorry with an orange trailer parked halfway in the bay! i asked hom to move and he said he would in 20 mins and said “can i go back to sleep now”
and me being the incompetent idiot I parked next to the pumps while it was quiet so I wasn’t blocking the through road and I wasn’t blocking the pumps and started to get wound up by idiots so I had 15 then had half an hour on the ind est at skem! Which was a diversion for me as I was heading to airbus

I did however notice a fly which was coming straight at me and had to use my horn to warn it i was coming straight for him whilst i was next to the orange lorry!!

correct! :sunglasses: and the police should take away THEIR licence! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: lazy steering wheel attendants CAN’T PARK :sunglasses:

I would ask them nicely and then ask them again if they are sure they don’t want to move to the lorry park? And then just have my break next to them.
Or better still drop the trailer and park in the lorry park so you don’t have to deal with the idiots. (Is it feasible dropping a ab load like a normal trailer??)
It’s just pure laziness on their part, or maybe they are just not confident in their ability to manoeuvre.

The trailer I had on today was only a standard 45ft stretched and extra 15 ft in the middle so exactly like a normal one just longer to carry specialist cradles for the A380 airplane to be completely honest it’s not that much longer than a car transporter but it bends in a different place which means I need extra room for turning if that makes sense!

depending on trailer some you have to remove all hdraulic hoses anddrop it on the neck then lower it using dokey engine no legs on them then the neck or drop it with theneck but just as much hassle some are just lowerdon the neck with donkey engine or through anderson connector .

problem with dropping it would be should someone run into it your liable

Ask them to move if the answer is no park alongside them make sure they cant get out then have your break nothing they can do that’s why the bay is there. Any shouting from them call plod

I did that when there were cars parked in loading bay and i just double parked by them. The road was wide, the traffic was next to none, yet I was told by the police to move.

I have alternative method now (or I had, when I still was driving big trucks): when I was blocked, I just stopped next to it blocking everyhing and was getting out trying to look very worried. People from behind were coming to give me abuse, but I was placing myself on their side “see, I understand you fully, I need to get into here, and I can’t because of that idiot…” Usually after some pressure from the public the access was cleared clearly

Jesus wept make up your mind, I can’t park in normal lorry bay and ■■■■ on my wheels and I can’t park in a ‘look at me I got a funny shaped load’ bay and walk to a normal persons toilet for a ■■■■, its either one or the other ffs :imp:

Couldn’t have put it better.
