Once North of Pitlochry there is nothing until you are over Drumochter Summit You could head into Aviemore and find something remember that the A9 is Scotlands killer road Oh zb I read that in the Daily Mail, dont worry you will be o.k.
Try and get to Pitlochry about 40 mins north of Perth lorry park is as you get into town its signposted. Plenty of food options about a 10 min walk up the main street. Even a Gregg’s bakery. oh and a big co-op for self catering.
Ballinluig (the pub has closed down but the cafe is top notch)
Pitlochry
Dalwhinnie
Newtonmore grill
You’ll be ok at any of these although I haven’t used Dalwhinnie for a while.
My personal favourite is Newtonmore though.
If short of time you can park in a car park in Perth, about 10-20 trucks do most week nights, easiest way is straight in off the M90 keep going pass Tesco straight ahead pass prison then into parkland area car park on right, turn right at lights, right at island and gates on right. Sunday night nosh not sure but few take aways towards centre of town,
The Ballinluig place was featured on the t.v. when they were doing a documentary about the A9.It is a fair way from Inverness but I still consider distances from a cyclists point of view. Its 2 hours in a lorry (about 8 on a bike).

you can get fuel at ballinluig and dalwhinnie (cafe and tea room and parking is gone though), you can get fuel at newtonmore on the keyfuels card only
Pitlochry has been mentioned a few times, but beware there is a railway bridge to get into the town from the south and a lower one to get into the proper overnight lorry park. depending on what time you get there the coach park is big enough for an artic, but you’d be shot down for going in between 7am and 7pm.
I always used to stop at the Chefs Grill in Newtonmore if at all possible.Great flat, well tarmaced parking, with nice view !!
Clean toilets etc, really pleasant staff, well cooked good food. They even had a “posh food” menu, not with “posh” prices, that a chap used to bring in his car from the hotel just up the road. Been off the road for a few years and am now retired, any one know if its still the same set-up and still as good ?
Regards John.
Yeh John the Chefs grill is still going strong, One of my favourite stops and I use it on a regular basis, was in twice last week.
Ten quid to park with a fiver off your dinner but to be honest I know a few guy’s that have parked there for years and not paid once.
Cheers Alfa Man,its good to know its still a good place to stop. First time I stopped there, must have been about 1997, I asked the young lady how much it was and she said if I was eating it was free to park! Still,it still sounds like great value.
Regards John.
Well set off Sunday & decided on Pitlochry, I could see the signs for lorry park but as I passed the car parks they all had no lorry signs. I pulled into coach park & saw a sign lorry park on Ferry road so I asked a local. I am only in a rigid so went down under arch bridge, just leads to a housing estate & the river, anyway turned around & parked in what looked like a Pavilion with a rugby field adjacent. Quiet night, had a pint in Mc’ays bar & used the loo!
the official lorry park is on the right just after the bridge on ferry road, just at the pub on the corner, you mustve stayed on the road and went down the wee road into the park . There’s often a belly tanker parks in the lorry park, but its not the best once one or two of you are in.
its a nice town and no one seems to bother after a certain time of night, but it’s not the best during tourist time and during the day.
weather was nice for you too
