Has it always been a dump that needs a good dose of napalm? Did it ever look well maintained in days gone by or did old time drivers hold it in the lowest regard too? Delivering around it today, it’s just a collection of dilapidated buildings, damaged/dumped cars, suspicious cafes and tea vans and iffy looking businesses.

Oi! D’you mind, I useter work there if you please
TBH I don’t have much idea what it looks like now. Way back in the 80s when I worked for a transport mob there it was always busy and lively - print shops, factories, cafes, Asda, Central Middx Hospital, the Guinness brewery, the Hanger Lane Aggravatory etc. etc. Like any industrial and commercial area it was a bit grubby around the edges, and yes there was the odd break-in and stolen car, and the occasional punch-up at the Royal Oak (which is probably not there any more). Yet I never felt unsafe there even during the wee small hours when I turned up at the yard, unlocked the gates and started my wagon in the pitch black of night, nor did anyone else I knew have any problems there.
Perhaps what NW10 looks like and feels like now is indicative of much of the rest of the country too - far too many people slaving for a wage, far too much lassitude in dealing with thieves and carjackers and assorted cheats, much too little discipline and much too little pride in where you live and work. Yes I know that’s easy to say, but [zb] it, I’ve had to work hard pretty much all my life and I see no reason why some others get a free ride.
Sorry, rambling again.
Yeah, I worked out of there too. I drove for Kensal Haulage who had a yard there back in the early 70s. Well, actually they only rented a patch from a furniture company who I forget the name of now (somebody & somebody). It was shortly after you exited the Hanger Lane underpass going eastbound towards Acton. When you had a 40ft trailer you had to get over into the outside lane to be able to enter the place. Hairy when you had traffic belting through the underpass bearing down on you from behind!!!

Was it Waring & Gillow or something just sprang to mind as I was reminiscing about going as a lad in the 50’s taking pigs into Walls in Atlas Rd NW10?
Hiya …iam in germany at the moment.i,am parked on a street outside the boat club
close to a house of some friends i,ve call on while i,am here.their are about a dozen sailing boats
on trailers parked on a piece of grassland. not a fence, wheelclamp or hitch lock in sight.
their are masts lowered with all the radar gubbins on. no sign of damage in sight.
its hellish hot over here at the moment 38 digres so last night slept in the camper with all the
windows open…never a worry, no one touched the van… about six years ago i was in South Woodham
Ferris parked near the inlaws, a group of youth,s appeared at 4 am and tried to tip my £56,000
2 month old camper over. i got out with a lump of timber to tackle these yob,s to which they
said sorry we didn’t know you was sleeping inside. i said dose it matter if anyons inside, why wreck
a new campervan. they just looked at me like i was stupid…i think GB is a lost caurse nowadays.
yes iv’e done stacks of work around park royal and the place is a mess, it,ll not get any better.

Is it where AEC cabs were made or just the same name?
Thats what I thought it was about anyway!

The coachbuilding firm were there, as was the Guiness Brewery. Apparently around a third of Londons’ food products are made there- if the state of the premises are anything to go by, I wouldn’t be surprised if another Great Plague cometh.

I can only recall going there once ,it was quiet on the transport side so i did a “dealer swap” which was using the gaffers Range Rover and car transporter trailer ,picking up an unregistered Jag from Leeds and taking it to Park Royal and swapping it for a different spec Jag and back to Leeds ,a terrible job as 50 mph was max otherwise the tyres blew on the trailer ,which actually happened on this trip at a roadworks section at Leicester

Thats them! You have a good memory.
I got my class 1 licence whilst with Kensal Haulage. As they paid for it all you had to stay with them for a minimum of 1 year afterwards otherwise they would claim back what it cost them. Fair enough. Fortunately (for me), their lease ran out with Waring & Gillows during the 12 months and they relocated to Watford and released me from my “contract” with them. I was then able to get a start with Howells & Reavells, Southall which had been my long term aim from the beginning and so began my "continental’ driving career (1973)! Happy Days:D
Best way to improve Park Royal? bomb Kolak Snack Foods!
Apparently most of Londons’ food’s made there. Why has there not been mass death from food poisoning, the place is disgusting?

Kolak crisps, was there one day when immigration officials burst thru gates, workers where under trailers hiding where ever they could in wharehouse! Did you try a packet of those tasty crisps Sayersy?!!!
I’ve seen several instances of badly parked cars getting bumped and drivers not leaving details. I suppose drivers don’t care because those who park badly don’t care.

Evening all, I realise that we are well insulated from the rest of the world here on a farm on the Staffordshire /Shropshire border. And its a disadvantage that we do not see what is happening to the rest of the UK.
I remember going to a series of interminable meetings in Renault Truck and Bus UK headquarters back in the late 70s. They had the top story of a block, with a roof top car park, opposite Cohens 600 Group yard, cannot remember the road name, but do remember the great cafe on the corner opposite AEC where they would do a “real” breakfast at 06.30 hrs…quite defeated my French colleagues!!
Biggest problem in the UK today…lack of a “real” Criminal justice system…real penalties for real crime…no it aint the Police…its the lawyers, and “do gooders”…crime should equal penatly, …it does not…and untill it does then you will get the situation john refers to…and that is not good!
We used to get problems with break ins at outlying buildings…installed cctv…alarms…no good…then put in trip wires coupled to shotgun cartridge detonators…but we did not put blanks in them…one morning doors open…pool of blood…never had a break in since!
Always worked hard for a living, and respect those who also so do…thieves…I hate them…and always will!!
Cheerio for now.
There’s another thought- the address of all Cohen’s branches was 600, followed by the name of the road. Quite confusing for a 21-year-old bulk tipper driver who was creeping along Wood Lane spotting the numbers on premises. It went 50, 52,54,56,58, 60, 62, 600! It was a good job that they put those huge red signs outside all their depots. I caught on after the first visit.

TBH I just returned from a week trip in the UK on business and I loved it, I am sure there is some crime going on but as far as I am concerned everything looked pretty rosy to me, mind you I was over from Johannesburg so maybe Beirut would seem like bliss.
