Log book, (v5) insurance, permission to drive in Europe. C.M.R. Think that’s all. Sure someone else has diff ideas!
V5-Log book.
Mot certificate.
Insurance document.
A letter with permission to drive the vehicle (unless he is an O.D).
CMR needed for the goods.
Breakdown cover for the van- Not needed by law but he will be a total idiot to go without.
He also would be well advised to carry-
First Aid Kit
Fire Extinguisher
Spare bulb kit
Hi viz vest
Spare wheel.
Don’t forget red warning triangle in case of breakdown
chuck a Fahrtenbuch in as well, you may need to nip into Germany
Be honest Malc. You really only added that cos it’s one of those funny Gerry words!

All we get is copy of V5 and copy insurance policy.
Off course CMR, but this comes with the load.
And I carry a triangle, hi viz and bulbs - for my safety.

Same as you orys, french do like you to have a permission to drive letter and of course you gotta have your passport and d/l.

Ah, I forgot about a letter. We take some letter and it’s written that such and such started work at X, is driving to Y and is expected to be back in Glasgow at Z
But I was driving without any paperwork as well… Stopped by Germans, I was thinking I am ■■■■■■, as only thing I found was some old insurance covered by the coffe stains (paperwork is usually in glovebox, so I am not even checking (well, I do NOW)) and someone removed it. So i pityfully showed that to them saying that we really do have insurance, but obviously someone removed it from the van…
They said that as there is tax disc, they assumed that car is road legal, checked my passport and told me to go. Even despite cracked windscreen…
I was really surprised after all these stories on German Polizei

For a van its the same price as a car, they dont really offer the same type of cover for trucks though do they.
