Anyone know this, a mate has the old style paper licence for the 7.5 s on grandfather wrights . So has not done any other test , has not moved, and is over 45 and has not had a medical and I think licence runs out in 20 years aged 70 … Has only just heard of the CPC and has never needed a photo licence so does not need to up date photo or otherwise…?
Maybe its just green eye …is this legal (ive done a class one , younger and have to have a medical. and a photo …)

Hypothetical question just curious …
Hiya done nowt wrong has he. possibly need a cpc before the end of next year.
another thing if you drive a artic thats pre 1950 you can drive it on a car licence with no mot or tax.
if you passed your test before 1990
thats what us old guys do best.
You need a photocard in order to obtain a dcpc card, however if you’ve no intention of vehicles in scope after Sep 2014 you can keep your paper licence.
The idea of 7.5 tonners not being a category on a car licence is just ridiculous being that the idea worked fine for years. As for grandfather rights they were an accepted part of the industry for years with no problem up to class 1 level and no issues between new drivers like me who needed to do the test v those who were older and didn’t need to.So why the big issue now.
The point I was trying to make , not very well …was if he moves house and has to change address on his licence. Is he will then have to pay for a medical , photo and his licence will only last 5 years.
does seem a bit mad. I guess because ive moved house a few times ive just accepted it…

Sounds like rules that have been made up by MEP’s just before it was time to go home on a bad day.

No medical need for a pre 1997 LGV C1 until age 70
Changing address will require a photo licence because DVLA do not issue paper only nowadays
As ROG says, your friends C1 entitlement WILL remain, even if he should change address…a photocard licence will be issued including Cat. C1 (upto 7.5 tonnes GVW). The only time he’ll need a medical is if he wishes to upgrade to Cat. C LGV or Cat. D PCV or should he lose his C1 through a medical condition.
Regarding DCPC training - if he needs to do it - i.e. if he uses his C1 licence professionally (or he thinks he may do after Sept. 2014).
He is entitled to attend Periodic Training & the attendance will be uploaded to his driving licence record, however when he reaches 35 hours, a Driver Qualification Card will not be issued UNTIL he changes to a photocard licence, at which point the DQC will follow automatically if he has 35 hours ‘in the bank’ or when he does reach 35 hours.
Apologies if this is covered in the posted link.
Hiya if the chap changes address he’ll get a photo card for free its just the photo he’ll have to pay
for on the first application.if he’s happy where he lives and with the class of licence, i’d leave be,
i thought it was if you loose or change the address on the plastic card you pay.
