Panic button (well what buttons do what)

So the other day i was sent to pick up a trailer from a scrap yard (it had been there a while). when I got to said scrap yard lets just say the under foot conditions was like a swamp and the trailer and sink into the mud, but i hitch up to it just fine but when it comes to moving off is when i started to panic. after 5 mins of trying to get started all i could do was spin on the spot tried every thing i could think of higher gear and trying to rock back and forth but then I think buttons but the problem was i had little to no idea what did what so i just ended up pressing them until one of them helped me get going, I still dont know what one it was, but i did get out.

so my question is what the hell do all the buttons do? its from one of the new merks…

I should add that i think i know what some are:

  1. ■■?
  2. ■■?
  3. set driving level
  4. stop the change to driving level
  5. I think is turn off attention assist
  6. I think is to turn off the OMG YOUR GOING TO HIT SOMETHING warning
  7. mid lift control
    8.■■?
    9.■■?
    10.■■?
    11.■■?
    12.■■?

so any help filling in the ■■? and correcting what i have put would be much appreciated

I would say 1/2 are exhaust breaks.
3 is height adjust for rear axel
4 is prob to stop raise /lower of number 3 .
5 cruse control off.
6 hand break off ?
7 lift axel
8 weight transfer to mid drive axel
9 ?
10 ?
11 hill start
12 traction control

Is 9 diff lock?

9 is diff lock… On tip (loaded) we usually dump the air from the midlift… If you are empty get the midlift up to aid traction… If it’s that bad neither will help though.

10 is rocking mode,
The rocking mode is activated at the touch of a button. By alternating between fast actuation and release of the accelerator the vehicle begins to “rock” – this means that a vehicle stuck in a marshy substrate can be driven out of a pit under its own steam in the words of Mercedes

Number 12 looks like this…

  1. Exhaust brake active
  2. Exhaust brake deactivate
  3. Brings the unit to the correct road travelling height.
  4. Stop something?
  5. Lane sensing feature on/off
  6. Auto distance brake on/off
  7. Raise or lower tag/mid lift axle manually
  8. Low traction mode, lifts tag/mid lift enough to place more weight on drive axle.
  9. Diff lock
    10 Rocking mode.
    11 Hill hold mode active/deactivated
  10. Electronic stability control on/off.

That dash is dirty ! where’s your Mr sheene ?

Wish I had that rocking mode the other day, got the 18t lorry stuck in mud, had to be towed out! Haha

I have some buttons that I have not a clue what they are and no manual in the lorry…

Radar19:

  1. Exhaust brake active

  4. Stop something?
  5. Lane sensing feature on/off
  6. Auto distance brake on/off
  7. Raise or lower tag/mid lift axle manually
  8. Low traction mode, lifts tag/mid lift enough to place more weight on drive axle.
  9. Diff lock
    10 Rocking mode.
    11 Hill hold mode active/deactivated
  10. Electronic stability control on/off.

Thanks a lot, and thanks to everyone else, I might be able to look less in a panic next time

Could try the traditional way when panicking about such things (even when the manual is available) - simply press all buttons and see what happens. If a voice tells you “my name is Optimus Prime” then erm, you can panic…

If you use the diff lock, for God sake disengage it or your boss might not be best pleased… Boom

Wish I had that rocking mode …

dozy uses that to get to sleep when he gets a fridge motor pull in next to him :grimacing:
