Should it be a driver’s responsibility to drive in such a way on normal roads that pallets of empty beer bottles do not collapse while in transit or should it be the responsibility of the consignor to dispatch the load in such a way that it will not collapse while being driven at slow to normal speeds on A roads and motorways?Asking for a friend.
So what your saying is I should drive the way im told to drive
The question is do you not know how to pull a load according to the load
You must be new to the game if you have to ask the question
The answer is simple you ain’t got a clue what your doing it sticks out a mile in your post, what you should work at is pulling the same stuff every day
Well, if you really want to know, I passed my HGV test in 1986 and the three longest trips I have done are to the Lada factory in Togliatti, which is about two days drive past Moscow, Krasnodar (in the Crimea), and Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
The longest time I have ever been away on a trip was 107 days and I’ve driven in 30 different countries in a truck in all. I’ve carried everything from shredded paper waste to King Henry VIII’s suit of armour.
So no, I’m not exactly new to the game.

I can see where your coming from Harry, and it does pose some interesting questions.
Say someone is driving for GlobalLogisticProvider who is most likely to be under contract to either MassiveBreweryPLC or GlassBottleIndustries for to move goods between glass manufacturing and beer bottling facilities.
All good so far, however, due to internal H&S policies.
You. The driver are not allowed into the loading bay to oversee, not allowed in the trailer and may not even be allowed to apply load restraints to a load YOU are responsible for.
But you set off in good faith only to arrive at MassiveBreweryPLC to find the whole lot on the floor. Chances are GlobalLogisticProvider has telematics and cameras everywhere that prove your driving was standard.
I for one in this scenario, wouldn’t want to know and absolutely would not be signing anything that was subsequently put in front of me. Let the various levels of pointy shoes argue the toss.
As my above side view photos ( Thanks Dave ) of real life go most of the way to prove it is down to the contract that exists between the three parties all in the name of cost cutting. Well above the pay grade of the £10/hour seat monkey.

Further to that, back in the 60’s double pallet loads used to come down to London from up north, roped and sheeted on ordinary flat trailers. No shrink wrap, and they all made it… except one that I shot on my first day let loose with an artic.

I personally think the load should be packaged and loaded such that the vehicle can be driven at the normal pace of vehicles of that type. If it has to travel more slowly then surely you are into an abnormal load scenario ? After all if it cannot travel at the same speed of similar vehicles without risking a shed load then it is not normal.Obviously tipper pace is not covered by normal
what utter ■■■■■■■■…so it should have an ■■■■■■ vehicle, police permission/movement order etc along the lines of ‘goods not packaged adequately for regular transport’ ?! Or maybe you’re correct and that’s why these curtainsider drivers are always parked in the ab load bays when I need to park in there! Silly me all this time I just thought it was due to laziness or inability to reverse onto a regular bay
