Pain or standing your ground

Had a few issues at my current place,ie i feel they took my good nature to keep giving me extra work and ask favours and as long as i was legal to do it i did…but since last week ive stuck to a 11 off daily rest no favours to have 9 off for there benifit.

Now will they see this as sumone making trouble or just playing by the book?

I love driving best job ive had…but if im honest hate being at the depot if that makes sence.

If you were getting paid extra for it then it wasn’t a favour.
Depends how petty your supervisors are but if you can’t/don’t want to do it just say no. If they get offended then tough.

Been there, done that.

The more you do, the more they’ll want you to do.

drivers MAY reduce three times inbetween weekly rests! :sunglasses: it’s that simple matey  YOUR CHOICE as in MAY :grimacing:

You’re not playing by the book by having 11 of instead of 9, you are merely getting your point across. I have no problem whatsoever with that, the mob I work for know that I’m happy to reduce when I’m away, but will refuse to do it if back at base. The result is that we all know where we stand so it’s happy days all around.

The problem you may encounter is that you’ve moved the goalposts AFTER you have established a pattern. You are doing nothing illegal, but human nature being what it is I’m willing to bet that you’ve ■■■■■■ them off big style, and again human nature being what it is they’ll take their petty revenge somehow.

I’m not saying that that is right in any way, but unfortunately that’s the way of the world.

I never do reduced daily rests. They’re only adequate if you’re at a service station or live round the corner from the depot. If you’ve got an hour-long commute and need to cook, eat, sleep and shower in that time, forget it.

and the more you get paid, i dont see a problem with that

… Stand your ground if you think you have to. It’s when you realize others aren’t pulling their weight, then it becomes the ‘mug’s game’ issue.

Or to put it another way, if you notice you’re starting to sprout a couple of long fluffy ears and a swishy tail, then there’s something wrong!..

They run you ragged which stresses you out and usually results in you taking ridiculous risks like the asshat on the A66 last night who is only still alive because I was more switched on than he was, and the amount of money you get doesn’t compensate for that in any way, shape or form.

Too many think that they HAVE to take their max amount of reduced rests every week, and it is compulsory (I don’t know if it’s brain wash or old fashioned pig ■■■■ driver stupidity) so their firms not only expect it but are happy to encourage it. I often hear the phrase ‘‘Get my 11 offs out of the way’’ :unamused:
I take them if or when it suits me end of, it’s my arse and/or life on the line if I come a cropper if anything happens due to tiredness, not the co.s.
If I had my way it would be law to have 11 off every night, on a continuous 13 on 11 off.
Too many knobs run the job as some kind of minimal rest endurance test, to the point of boasting about it…and let them get on with it, but the problem is we have to share the road with these dicks.

Only if paid hourly, on day rate it just ■■■■■.

Big Trucker Syndrome unfortunately. The same people who probably think that £500 in the bank for doing what genuinely would be considered two weeks’ work in any other industry is good going.
