Being retired for a few years now, I’m a bit out of touch with current employment legislation. It was always my understanding, as one who has been made redundant several times in my working life, that those employees made redundant could not be replaced for at least six months. To qualify as a redundancy, rather than dismissal, it was the JOB that had to go, and therefore the need for someone to do that job - so P&O’s intention to replace their own staff with lower-paid agency workers makes a mockery of that (unless I have been misinformed). Whatever the legality of their actions, to tell their staff via a pre-recorded video message that they were out of work with immediate effect, with no consultation with them or their Unions, absolutely stinks.

That’s my understanding of the definition of redundancy.
By P and O’s definition everyone’s job is continuously open to the lowest bidder.
If we were French we’d never let those ships dock. Here’s the latest:

An awful lot of misinformation in the comments from trouble causers and student union leaders. Many dont understand the North / South divide. Hull and Rotterdam can never be compared to the Kent / Calais crossings.

Ironically that’s exactly what happened. The surviving crew’s’ employment and pay was terminated from the time when the ship sank.
