I use Simply Business simplybusiness.co.uk, found them to be very cheap and very straight-forwards, all done on-line. I’ve got PL to cover a different side of my LTD business, not for the lorry driving part of my work. £10mil PL cover for £65pa

I used Simply Business today. I had the cheapest quote of around £220 for £5mil public liability insurance, however, I have chosen £10mil one paid by DD so it will not make a big difference in my financials, anyway. They are Finsbury - hope, they are ok.

What is your actual trade as different Insurers/brokers specialise in different areas.

Do you actually need Employers Liability, if you’re in effect a one man band you may not need it

I was told by an adviser from Simply Business that as I am just a director (and a lorry driver as well) and do not employ anyone else - I am not required to get Employer Liability Insurance and they are not able to offer one at this stage.

That’s correct advice and why I posted the previous question.

What exactly is the insurance for?

I got told this afternoon that I needed PL in order to get work through this particular agency.

Got a quote from autonet £131 for £2mil cover and based on £30k grand turnover. According to them, this covers me when carrying hazardous goods and when airside, on quayside and in railyards. Few other things too but cant remember exactly, just waiting on docs to arrive.

After I explained the situation, they said they would put me down as being a “haulage contractor” and this will cover all aspects.

Public liability is there basically just to cover you/your company incase someone falls over your kit bag or you drop something on their head. Stuff like that.

How important is it for LTD companies to have Public liability insurance in getting work. I’ve just set up my LTD, not working at moment need pass CE yet.

I used Cornish for my 2 mill PL insurance for £90 about IIRC . Why do you need it ■■ for example … you are unloading cartons or summit out of your van/truck and a member of the public cant see the bloody things on the path and falls arse over ■■■ and break their leg/arm they could and would take you to the cleaners with this compensation culture we inherited from the yanks.
