Well if you’ve looked at many topics like you said you have then I think you already know the answer don’t you.
But as BB say if you have looked then you poss know the answer
You will have to wait a while for your O licence as it takes time you have to calculate the rate for job then have to sort out own tax / ni have ■■ £££££ in bank in case of repairs something goes wrong also you will need GIT as well as insurance for unit road tax
Are you going to buy own unit or lease what about trailer ie which 1 do you go for skelly for box’s flat bed curtain sider what work are you planing on doing
Is there enough work to cover all your expenses is there work for an O/D as the company will look after own 1st
people have set up on there own before hand, and was wanting to know the the good and bad suide to owner driver, ie the pit falls
maybe im thinking pie in the sky or is it thanks for any help… abs
I have been a designated transport manager for an owner driver for around 10 years. Last month he finally packed up after trying everything he knew to make a living. He had loads of work, got paid weekly but the mileage rates coupled with the ever rising prices brought about the end.
Its not something you can flit in and out of. It takes months to get your O licence and by law you need access to many thousands of pounds.
In my opinion a newbie to the industry would have less than a 5% chance of lasting 2 years but like everything it is possible. A lot of research is vital before jumping in.
