You’d need a minimum of £2000 a week just to cover the costs I’d say.

Fuel is going to be around £700

2,000 miles per week at best at a rate of around £1.25 per mile of which around £1,500 will go in fuel costs is a reasonable starting point to sort out some figures.

I do over 2000miles a week id say 75% fully loaded and use about 700/800 ltrs a week.

Assuming around 2,200 miles per week that means 12-14 mpg + running at around 38t gross. :open_mouth: :unamused:

I’d prefer to base the figures on a closer to 8 mpg consumption figure and anything better than that is a bonus.

Although those figures would make sense if you’re mistaking kilometers for miles.

I have got the tee shirt, tbh, you will make more net profit, operating a taxi,

What about just having a unit to show and shine only ?

That would be a better idea plenty of cheap 90’s motors to choose from

hey fallmonk,who owns the ■■■■■,class lass ?

Hello Everyone,

“with this shortage of drivers” we have would it be the right time to run your own unit or just stop with a company, can you get more if you have your own unit or does it work out about the same ■■

Also while i am asking this question how much is it to insure a unit ? and how much would it cost per year to run it ?

If these have been asked before sorry :unamused:

In a word yes. Read every post in the Owner Driver forum & you should be good to go.

Just for clarity’s sake there is a driver shortage not a lorry shortage. At present you are in a better position just as a driver.

Having said all that I heard the other day that some of the supermarkets are favouring subbies with their own units at the moment as if a load needs shifting urgently they can just back under it and be gone without having to bother with all the H&S ■■■■■■■■.
