this morning, just off where the M69 joins the A46 near Coventry,an artic negotiating the r/b on the sliproad lost his trailer with container on,the seperated unit remaining upright.just a plain white cab i think,so no idea which company.his mate who had made it round safely was parked up near-by.
Never driven containers but I guess he didn’t turn the locks with him still upright I bet it was fun telling his boss

could be a number of reasons for it
faulty jaws in the fifth wheel
failure to connect the trailer properly
snapped king pin
fifth wheel coming away from the unit chassis
the fact is, nobody on here knows what happened, unless the actual driver is on here, there is no details of any damage to any part of the truck/trailer regarding that area of it
had a snapped king-pin myself 4-5 years ago with tipper trailer.i had stopped at the last r/b before joining the M1 at MK.when the road was clear i went to pull away with my load of scrap concrete, and i realised the trailer wasn’t following i stopped before it dropped to it’s knees, waved the following traffic by,and rang up the gaffer.“how far can you get?”,he asked

You did well to notice before it dropped, did you hear it go?
Similar thing happened to me years ago. Dropped a trailer, picked another one up and headed for the gatehouse. Security bloke said to park up and walk back to the office as he’d just had a phone call. Did what he said, as I got to the office, one of the lads handed me a carrier bag containing the kingpin and all the bolts still attached to a rusted piece of steel, with the words: “don’t forget to tell me which six numbers you put on before Saturday”

A long time ago, I had to go and tranship a load from a trailer were the pin had rotted out off the rubbing plate. Talking to the wrecker guys they reckoned that the driver described it as being catapolted out from undernaeth the trailer, he was stopped at a set off lights when they went green he pulled away the trailer didnt. the first copper on seen wanted him to get the pin out off the 5th wheel, which he refused to do, left that for accident investigation to see
He was about 200 yds from his destination. in Slough, the company refused to allow the wrecker to take the trailer onto their premises, so they had to take it up to their yard at Heathrow. H&S dont you know where we transhipped it

You made my day!
One of our drivers did the same rolled the trailer and container but the unit stayed upright. Twisted and cracked the chassis on the unit thus rendering it useless. The fifth wheel coupling didn’t look too pretty either
Not guilty
