Overtime after 8 h? or 10? or

HGV Class 1 Night Trunking Drivers
My client urgently require HGV Class 1 Night Trunking drivers.

Working days will be Monday - Friday and hours will vary slightly.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 years experience and ideally be available for an immediate start.

Salary starts at £25,000 rising to £26,000 after completion of the 6 month probationary period.

Overtime is paid at time and a quarter per hour for anything over 10 hours per day.

Sundays and Bank holidays will be paid at time and a half per hour.

Is overtime start after 8h? or it is overtime according to your contract?

BTW the add above is an insult to class 1.

We get time and a quarter after 7.5 hours for the next two hours to 9.5 then time and a half after, that’s week days.

It starts when the firm says it does according to your contract.

You must have earnt a fortune today Drift. When I went past you on the M62, I thought you were in reverse.

Well…If you’re daft enough to work for those conditions. I ■■■■■■ despair with this industry sometimes! :imp:

Me, flat rate, 40 hours or 60…
Paul

salary, more hours = less hourly rate so teararse about and get even more to do :frowning: I luurve this job

Overtime after a normal number of working hours in a week (eg. 40) seems fairest to me.

Otherwise… You’ll be working 5-6-5-6 patterns of exactly 9 hours a day.
The “overtime after ■■ hours in a day” system means you’ll be working every other saturday, work your happy hour* each day, and NEVER qualify for the premium rate. :exclamation:

  • ‘Happy Hour’ concept - working a 9 hour shift, and getting paid for a flat 8 hours - because you don’t get paid for the hour’s meal break.
A shift lasting exactly 9 hours therefore is the higest percentage deduction of mealbreak that you can get - and you can bet your PPM boots that shifts will be “planned” to last as close to exactly 9 hours as possible!

We’re always led to believe that the reason that “drivers are urgently required” is a sharp upturn in business!
IF this were the case - more money would be forthcoming, and thus the paradox of price discovery squasing out the “shortage” comes into play.
Of course, you and I know that the REAL cause of “drivers are urgenly required” - is because the drivers that were doing the job last month - have moved onto better paying agencies.

This day and age with a lot of Companies now working 5/7 they pay one rate all through irrespective of what day it is,the only extra you get is shift premium for afternoons and nights.

My lot are as tight as arse holes and the way they pay us suits them more than us. Overtime after 50 hours, at time +about 75p :unamused: . That is not after 10hours in the 5 days either, so if you have a long day on say Mon and a short day Tues it evens out and you end up working some of your Mon hrs for single time in theory.

its got nothing to do with drivers moving onto bigger or better contracts - its basic peaks and troughs and the whole reason they use agencies rather than trying to get an extra 10-20-30 drivers on a 4-5-6 month contract.

also sometimes its the client who dictates whether its flat rate or overtime (some sites don’t pay their own lads overtimes or the increase is minimal and saves any issues).

but the easiest way is don’t apply for the job, I have yet to see an advert which says we know where you live and will hunt you down if you don’t move.

So we may assume you don’t get paid breaks which means if you did a 60 hr week you would get 7.5 hrs overtime, how much do you get for the 4 weeks annual leave bugger all, and are you guaranteed 50 hrs pay if you fall short of your contracted hours, I doubt it.

Not the worst I’ve seen by any means £500 a week gross for permanent nights is on the low side particularly near the central hubs, you can say what you like about unions but one thing is absolutely certatin the shop stewards where I work would not stand for it and the company wouldn’t even bother trying.

Why any one would even consider 1,25 overtime rate etc. … Mugs … (no offence)

I would’t drive class one below 600£ week … Its madness. (no offence)

I drive Daf 220 skip ant take 500 home. 9 h days. 5 days a week. PPL need more self respect. (no offence)

And people moan when tube drivers go on strike to protect their terms and conditions…
