Overtaking a cyclist

If there is no other traffic about,i try to pass as wide as possible, just in case the chain on the bike snaps, the rider panics, and when he/she falls in the road, they will take all the road for space,a badly maintained bike can could cause a problem at any time, wheels coming off ,or a brake problem,so pass wide,if the road is busy, then there is no choice to pass close.

Someone please call a Dr. or better still the men in white coats. No idea what it is you are on Toby, but might I suggest you refrain from taking anymore.

As a trucker and cyclist the answer is always pass wide if there is no room wait i have been known to sit behind and follow a bike for over a mile rather than risk some sort of accident nothing is that urgent.

As this is in the Euro forum I take it you’re on about overtaking foreign cyclists in a foreign land.

I can’t really see why this is in the Euro Forum but fair play for bringing it up, even though i don’t agree about passing close! If in doubt, do not overtake. I am a regular cyclist and cycled into work this morning. It is only about 4 miles from house to work and part of the journey is on the narrow A338. In the space of less than half a mile, two cars overtook me forcing the oncoming vehilcles to brake and swerve to avoid each other. To be fair, most lorries that overtake are patient and give plenty of room but some car drivers are just too impatient or do not realise the dangers of overtaking. Funny how they all slow down for a horse - too scared of being hit by half a ton of nag!!

nor can anybody else but thats toby for you :unamused: :unamused:
he posts so much crap in so many places the mods can’t keep up with him :unamused:

I cycle to and from work 10 miles in total, set out at 3am love cycling at that time no traffice, cycling home at 5pm there is a little bit more traffic :open_mouth: .

One thing to remember,if you overtake a cyclist too close and he falls, slips or gets blown under your wheels you are very likely to be charged with something(driving without due care, causing death by dangerous driving ect ect)unless there are witnessess who can defend your innoncence, your looking at a few years in prison,

Worth saving a few extra seconds■■??

Ive been driving hgvs for 8 years so know how it can be frustrating at time being stuck behind a cyclist, but i dont get paid enough and never will do risk killing someone to get to my destination a few seconds quicker.

And here it is in Portugese Toby
