Overnight pallet networks

When Joe Public is fast asleep after their 8 hour working day, are they not aware of vast fleets of double decker pallet trailers on night shifts to hubs and depots.Hats off to the drivers doing it.
I have tried it.Marmite.Like it or hate it.
When Joe sits on his computer ordering cheap tat on line, does he realise the leap frogging to get the pallet on his front door.?
One delivery in Dorset the client left a note on his door.Ref#Stove delivery.
I am out walking the dog.
Back later.
I rang his mobile.Left message. He rings back to say deliver now.I took a 45 min break. He walks past my truck asking if i had his stove and drop it off now.You can guess my response to that.Bless his cotton socks.

People are funny. When I was on B&Q HIAB home delivery work about ten years ago, I parked up at the roadside for my break. Next thng I know some guy is angrily banging on the cab door, demanding to know “when they’re going to fit my kitchen”. No idea mate, do I look like I work in customer services?

As for night double decker trunking work, I love it. Eight hour shifts, job & knock, better money and quieter roads than day work and most of the daylight hours to do my own thing. What’s not to like?

Fair point. In three years I’ve been to Bradford (twice), Cannock and Irthlingborough. And nowhere else. Personally, I got the “going to different places” thng out of my system years ago, but I can see how it’d put some people off. In the dark, all motorways look the same.

I hate the queuing that when taking in combination with a 4+ hour each way to the hub, means you’ll spend 3 hours inching forward in a tip queue, then barely getting a break (no food or sleep involved) before it’s time to get your backload, and start back with the nodding dogs…

Then there’s the prospect of driving a palletliner tomorrow night…
I’m quite happy with my weighty fruit & veg all tucked inside a hardsided trailer.
Glad not to be doing anything double decker wise for the rest of this week at least. :sunglasses:

I finished a 12 hour night shift this morning, got 4 hours sleep and now im up looking after my kids :open_mouth:

just glad im not working tonight !!
