Not only that; there are also very tight regulations concerning when hedges can be cut, and landowners can be heavily fined if they stray outside these without being able to show good reason. Not sure about the rest of the UK but in Wales the restriction applies between March 15 to August 31. It’s an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1982 to deliberately destroy a bird’s nest that is still in use; penalty of a fine up to £5000 or 6 months in jail.
