over weight

Mullens, it’s because a lightweight body would be wrecked in no time. Also MANs are obese when tared. You can get lightweight steel bodies, Smiths buy Charlton Superlites. Their MANs get half a tonne more on than I can. Fodens were the best, just shy of 20 on an Alpha.

Tipper Tom, you’re right muck tickets are done by the load it’s deliveries of aggregates are done on handwritten tickets. I just check the weight of the load with my weigher and write it down. Sometimes I only take out 17t if the material is light. Still paid the same.

Throw your lunchbox out the windae if you get stopped that should get rid of a 100kg or so

Then you get done for littering (a hanging offence in some towns !) lol.

Mullens:
Learn something new everyday didn’t know those could run at 44t

They can’t, 38 tonne is the limit for 8 wheeler Plant, 11 tonne on both twin wheeled back axles, 8 tonne on each of the fronts when using Super Singles on both axles.

your allowed 5% max gross before they would issue a ticket.
so for 44000kg you can get away with 44220kg.

Hiya…this driving game is a killer, iam glad its over for me. if you overload a 8 legger
by half a ton, its dangerious the brakes could fail the steering isn’t made for that weight.
BUT if you have a 8 legger Plant lorry (the ones with the sand a gravel hopper)and a mixer
on the back of the truck…44 tons and red diesel IF YOU pay extra road tax. the lorry
is no longer dangerious…good is’nt it
John

its not dangerous as that is its designed weight ,now if you exceed that then it would ,so being overweight but under the design weight is not dangerous but you will still get done

mobile plant can run to their design weight ,so if its 44 ton than thats what it can run to
these run a 42 legally ,was pulled on way to our job at 42250 and let on his way

I stand corrected, interesting to know what the axle weights at 42t would be

Hiya if you read the makers plate you’ll find most european lorries are specked for higher weights than the UK will let us work to…about the 44 ton 8 legger the road tax 10 years ago was 7k if i remember corectly.

that is 0.5%, 46200 is 5% but its 5% or up to 1 ton some one said on here. Don’t know how true it is though.

Yea that’s right,i got my maths wrong.

Case in point John, my 3+3 drawbar is plated at 44000, but the combined plated weight of the 6 axles is 52000.

Bear in mind that any tolerances VOSA allow are at their discretion. There was a haulier once who thought he was being very clever sending all his trucks out 4% overloaded thinking he was in the clear. Not so. VOSA soon realised he was taking the mick and prosecuted him.

There is some leeway to allow for the inadvertent overload but not if it’s seen to be a regular thing.
