if one is on a bay for just over two hours and your time runs out what does one do
If one allows one to get into that position in the 1st place one is in the wrong job

Inform the place where you are that your time will run out and if not off the bay then you will be taking your rest on the bay for 11/9 hours - to prevent the bay being blocked for all those hours either you move off it or they move you off it before a rest is due to start
Pretty much what rog said, tell the staff that you are running out of time. If nothing happens demand the keys back and off you go.
ok thanks i know what to do next time
Only thing wrong with what Rog says is that at some places it seems that half the drivers say there out of time thinking they will get unloaded first only thing is they have heard it so many times before.

At least if you tell them though it’s their falt when you sit there all night

These options are what would happen in the next to ideal world, the ideal being that the tossers would have got on with the job in the first place.
I got caught out about a year and a bit ago, and ended up 45 mins over. I had got into a heated debate with the customer, after I had realised that the container wouldn’t be empty in time for Me to park up in time. I gave the customer a few options, and I informed my planner off these same options, 1- I would drop the trailer on the bay and collect in the morning (my preference). 2- I would park on the bay overnight. 3- I would bring the balance of the load back in the morning.
None of this happened, and they would not return my keys. My firm were I suspect not helping in anyway, for fear of upsetting the customer. So I ended up overtime. I had a mitigation of sorts, that being that it was a regular drop for our company, and it was normally only about 2-3 hours, this time took 5 hours, so under normal circumstances I would have had time to tip and move on legal, so printouts were done, one for Me one for the office, and the mitigation explained, and blame thrown in all directions. When the infringement came up for signing a month later, the compliance guy had a fit because of what I had written, but I refused to amend My explaination, which incriminated the firm for not pulling the truck out
So I would say, always try and make sure that you have enough time available to complete you tip/load in the time required, if its a regular customer(you’d have an idea off how long they normally take). If its not ask how long they are expecting to take if your getting into the latter part of your shift, if this doesn’t meet with your hours inform your boss, and if you do then get caught out do a print out
None of this happened, and they would not return my keys.
Probably a daft question as I’ve come across this keys reference before. Are there places where you go to deliver who for some reason want to keep hold of your keys or am I misunderstanding this reference?

So basically make sure you can blame somebody else, and get it in writing. You really should be a politician.
If you find yourself short of time always BS em a bit, I.e. if your time runs out at 7 tell em 6.30 minimum. But keep em informed and be cooperative with potential solutions.
I got caught out once and was allowed to have 9 off on the bay, no coning off dramas as the bay was not being used.
If you ever encounter problems getting keys back just say theres medication in your fridge that you have to take or an ambulance will be needed shortly. They will know your bullpooping but wont call your bluff. If they ask whats wrong with you just tell em its personal but not contagious.

Yes many places operate the key surrender policy, which I have no problem with, but its to stop you from pulling off the bay whilst your trailer is still being worked, and potentially killing or seriously injuring a worker who maybe entering or exiting the trailer at the time you unexpectantly move. I, as a policy off my own, always apply the trailer brake even though I’m still connected to the trailer, and have no intention to move, but it just gives you an extra layer off security

Yes Dave, I always start off with the polite enquiry, but this lot were just taking it to a different level off awkwardness, and I just started to see red, which does take a lot for Me, I think that My planner was giving Me the run around was what probably got most annoyed, hence throwing blame in their direction on the printout

Well this is what was really annoying, they wanted the bay as they are a 24 hr operation, they have their own tug, so they could’ve moved the trailer when empty. They wanted an email from my firm to confirm this was ok(well that was the excuse), probably to cover them for the damage their shunter would inevitably do. I passed on the email address to My planner but though He assured Me it was in hand, nothing happened, that’s when I start to throw F’s in any direction

Class, in all My time I’ve never thought off that
I’ve done the hiding in the loo when you are on about 2 and half hours or so, and want a 3hr break. Then emerge walking funny saying “I’d give that a wide berth for a while”

If I’m going down, I’m taking some of them with Me
The company I work for now are very strict about timing, if you are held for more than an hour without good reason they kick off, get held for more than two hours without good reason then the company start adding charges and they aren’t not small ones! Credit to our planners here, they will get you moving either by threatening a fine or just straight up pulling you out.
I was sat waiting at Culina Wolverhampton for 5 pallets, got there 20 minutes early so was told to wait till my 10am load time which is fair enough. 10am came and went. Its now 10:30 so I wander into the office to ask what the situation is, turns out they haven’t been picked yet. No biggie, leaves me time to get a 45 here so I kick back and wait. Almost 3 hours later I’m past the point of caring and so is my planner so he tells me to just leave. The moment I get to the exit gatehouse a forkie comes out beeping his horn, waving his arms. The guy in the gatehouse says they are ready to load me. Tough luck I said, I’ve was there for almost 3 hours seeing other wagons come and get loaded before me. I’m done sitting waiting, I’ve got stuff I need to do.
