So that puzzled me as the article mentioned it was owned by a local in Ireland. A little digging seems like there were 2 of them, the other doing some service in Africa and one would assume making it back to Ireland for it’s current location.
The Papal visits to Eire produced a yellow Merc in 1979, and a white 4x4 in 2018.
The 1979 Merc has obviously had a new cab fitted at some point, as it’s relatively new.

Original Popemobile was mounted on a silver cabbed Ford D series tandem axle probably a 6X4 similar spec to the Leyland Constructor.
I can remember as my father had similar D series tippers. The body was then put on display in the wax museum minus the chassis.
It was then mounted on this Merc chassis when the wax museum moved to a different location. It just dosent look write, wheelbase, height etc are not correct.
