Over-nighters/tramping

Hi,
I’m doing a run down to Bristol tomorrow, which will involve me having to stay overnight in the Bristol area. Am planning to stay at a service station, as I can claim the money back. Would it be okay to leave my phone charging, and have an iPad chardung from the cigarette lighter, without the engine being on? I don’t want to look like an idiot in the morning if I have drained the battery.
Also there is a control panel which looks like it has a heater for the bunk area - does this drain the battery.
Sorry if this sounds a bit thick, but better to check, before messing up.

Thanks

Hi Eleanor, I don’t think you’ll drain the battery doing that, and the night heater is designed to be on with the engine off - they are really good too so you wouldn’t need to run it for hours on end

Thanks for that. There never seem to be any drivers in the yard to ask, and the lads in the warehouse don’t know. Have only just started, and it still surprises me that I turn up, and just get handed the keys to a wagon, with the paperwork, without any questions .

Where in Bristol are you tipping ? Also what services are you stopping at Gordano or Severn View ? Sorry just nosey.
Also you’re battery will be fine.

Yep, that sounds about normal!

I’ve got about 7 drops, and I’ve been told that I won’t get them all done tomorrow, and will have to do a couple on Friday - not sure where in Bristol they are. Was planning on checking the closest service station on the way down, and staying there, so that I’m not driving round aimlessly.

Depends which lorry I am driving as if my phone will charge without engine on or not

When I do night out never stay in services or lorry park normally in a layby or industrial est but that just me

Although have stayed in a yard where I am /have tipped

It is not thick to ask. When i started driving, i was not sure of things.
Is your boss signed up to SNAP ?
That way you do not pay to park. The boss pays.
What kind of work are you on ?Rigid multi drop ,artics ?

Thanks for your responses. I am back at Gordano - it worked out well last week, so decided to come back this week (even though it was a bit out of my way, for a drop in Gloucestershire, tomorrow). Took this decision as I had a bit of a nightmare last Thursday, where I struggled to find somewhere at Northampton and Newport Pagnell - people were stopping on the slip roads, as they were full - maybe I got there too late?

Am on a class 2 curtain sider - about 10 drops over 2 days (nice and steady). The pattern seems to be staying out on Monday and Thursday nights, and local runs on the Wednesday.
I’m enjoying it - some days I feel like I’ve cracked it, and my driving and reversing are very good, but then get brought down to Earth, with a rubbish reverse, or mis-judging a tight corner.
It’s all good practice…

Sounds very familiar, welcome to the club
