If they increase it to 3hrs, people will soon be bugging them to increase it to 4.

Why there is a reason for having it at three hours due to tacho laws so is easily justified no legal reason for it to be 4

Spot on, for all those that want the time extending where will the trucks that need a break go when your hogging the bays because “Tosco” don’t want
you to wait in their yard. We already know MSA’s are “landlocked” so cannot expand or justify it.

taffytrucker:
Msa parking should be free anyway full stop

It is for 2 hours
I think all road haulage should be free within Britain to bring down the cost of everything. Not sure how to pay for the staff and equipment/vehicles but I’m trying to work on the same logic
In fact I’m right peed off i paid for a medical this week i should have got it free :imp:

No one is saying that everything to do with haulage should be free but on the continent parking in MSA’s is free and it seems to work well enough over there. Most countries are expanding their parking facilities in MSA’s but of course in the UK far better to have MSA’s as out of town shopping centres rather than what they are supposed to be there for to provide an area for drivers commercial or otherwise to be able to safely take a break. I have no objection paying for parking at a truck stop but will never pay at an MSA as long drivers just go along with paying rip off fees for parking it will never change at the end of the day as a driver you are paying to park twice once at the MSA and again when the cost is added onto the goods you buy so more fool you.

Aren’t the majority of roads on the continent tolled though?

Conan stop comparing completely different scenarios you know people don’t like facts :sunglasses:
That’s like saying they charge for toilets abroad and you get the money back from your purchase when you show your ticket or whatever, i don’t see many asking for that even though it seems a sensible idea to bring more investment in or increase profits however you want to look at it.?
Mazzer the Gov’t decided in the early 90’s to relinquish control of MSA’s to make them self funded rather than taxpayer funded and to deregulate the industry as much as possible to stimulate investment, see Gloucester, Cobham, wetherby, Birchanger, beaconsfield etc and a few more in planning for examples
If you don’t agree with the model have a go at the Department for Transport but you may be a bit goosed now as the MSA’s are “managed” under “Highways England” policy.
What would you like to happen if MSA’s don’t up there parking spaces, would you like them shut down ? Would that help road safety ?
The only difference between a Junction MSA and out of town retail park is the requirements to have signing, i’e truck parking and be open 24/7 otherwise you’d have ASDA at JNC 2 M5 signed, Tesco at Jnc 27 M60 signed and everywhere else

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying MSAs are “value”, far from it, but to say they should be free because they are on the continent is folly IMO.

Conan, the roads over “there” might be tolled, but here it’s £10.00 a day for all trucks, or had you forgotten?

Regardless of who is in charge, parking facilities in the UK are a disgrace and our trade organisations are doing very little about it over the last few years as the volume of road freight has increased Germany, Holland and France have all increased their parking capacity on quite a grand scale, as an idea of how much the A1 from Paris to Lille has had more spaces added in the last 5 years or so then the whole of the UK. At least on the continent they understand the importance of haulage with industrial areas having parking spaces on them, stop to look at your map in Magna Park and some jumped ■■■■ is on you telling you that you can’t park there

Work hard enough during the day and a fridge or engine on tick over for a spell won’t keep you awake

The more I use MSA’s, the more used to fridges and other noises that come with it. Hell, the other day I was so tired I stuck it next to a running fridge and was out like a light!

I must have a invisible sign (only visible to ‘Noisy’ Fridge Drivers & Tickover Merchants) that invites them to park next to me.
Lost count of the number of times I’ve been woken up.
SWITCH EM OFF FOR 45 MINUTES, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE WITH CREAM ON TOP. [emoji106]

A lot of modern fridges if you switch em off then dispatch can tell straight away. So no chance

When I’ve tipped at Tesco chesterfield I’ve always parked on the trading estate and never had any bother. There used to be a decent motorbike shop there I used to have a wander around. It’s their waiting room I object to it’s hideous and my snoring upsets the office staff.
They used to let us drop the trailers and park the units outside the office then we could stay in them but they have stopped that.

Commercial drivers in Europe can apply for discount cards at restaurants, you simply fill in a form and they post a card to your address.
Some have up to %25 off meals.
Loyalty cards are offered, buy nine meals, get the tenth free.
France has aire de repos, rest areas, free on the toll road, with footpaths for dog walking, they are mostly in a scenic area, set away from the motorway, so less noise.
