ive heard all sorts of stories about bays beeing cordened of by coppers until youve had your daily rest , all the big boys telling you to move your truck or else .
but how do you really stand if you run out of hours on a r.d.c bay, tesco etc, legaly
tell them what time your hours run out knock half an hour off first (to give yourself half a chance if they grunt at you remind them half an hour before then if your time runs out refuse to move it off the bay if they then decide to phone the coppers said coppers will turn up and either sign your card (so you can move to the nearest SAFE parking place or if they are in a grump they will tell you to stay putt and they will tell the rdc to cone off the bays either side most of the rdc’s have got wise to this now so if you warn them your time is getting low they will tip you to get you outta the way tesco’s at middlewich had about half a dozen bay’s that they couldn’t use 1 night it was hilarious they got told off the copper that if one of them drivers got disturbed before there rest was up he would see to it that every tesco truck in cheshire got pulled over and checked for everything oh and they had to give us access to the canteen

oh thats a shame i was beliving that.
I used to work for B&Q at Grantham then they moved to Worksop.
The goods in people were all labotamy out-patients and didnt have a clue drivers had tacho restrictions on hours etc etc. A container driver came there from Bowmur on what he thought was a tip and home BUT he ran out of time on the bay, he told the numpties at the goods in bay many times he was close to his time, im pretty sur ehe awas on site for about 10 hours or more.
They told him he would be tipped an hour or so from the time he would have ran out of time, needless to say he phoned the local Police to infeorm them he was under pressure to break the law they arrived on site quite fast and suggested to DHeLL that he was given a place to park whic was far enoguh from the offices for him to park and get some sleep, no cones etc etc but they insisted he was allowed a good nights sleep after dropping his trailer which I as shunter at the time moved for him .
SO I know for a FACT that the Police will support you if you call them and you do have rights to be left alone when you run out of time.
This is a fact which I have witnessed feel free to rip it apart but it IS TRUE.

there we go honesty and no myth.
If you’re in an artic and are running out of hours, then what is wrong with dropping the trailer (after informing the office) and then parking up out of the way for your rest period?
Rigid drivers might have a problem, but most places these days have more than one bay don’t they
Not quite the same subject but there was a letter printed in T&D a few years ago, from the Chief Executive of the company that own/manage Magna Park, following complaints about lack of parking, that the Tennant’s for the individual operations were contractually obliged to provide ‘overnight parking’ for drivers who had run out of hours.
I know of certainly one incident at Asda there when, despite various reminders, a Dutch driver ran out of hours.
He was told that he would not be allowed to remain on the site and was required to leave.
As all of these RDC’s are actually Operating Centres’ in their own right, then perhaps VOSA could/should show a little more interest, or indeed, invite observations, as to how these operations are conducting themselves with regard to outside suppliers.
After all, there is an offence under (what used to be) The Magistrates’ Court Act of “Aid, abet, counsel, or procure”… (a summary offence).
Perhaps what is needed is for a TC to haul one of the ‘Big Boys’ up before them and adjudicate a ‘temporary curtailment’ of their O.L.
Perhaps THEN they might start taking notice of what drivers are telling them.
