I am going to say yes, there is nothing in the regulations that I can see, the only mention slightly related is defacing a chart, but writing the date in thick pen shouldn’t be a problem.
I am from Yorkshire too, so look after the pennies 
Provided it is the correct type of chart for your vehicle, check the ‘e’ numbers on the chart and the tacho unit, then you can use it as long as you write the correct date on it.
