We ounce had a big cab Daf come into the yard and it was given to its assigned driver , on return from his first trip the driver was asked what he thought of his new Daf , his reply "well it’s a bit like a crab " how do you mean the boss asked?
" it’s all shell and no guts " came the reply . I never forgot it lol
No substitute for cubic inches…probably not a bad power output but will be seriously down on torque compared to any Scania V8 of any output…but there again the Swedish truck is several litres larger…
It’s not just that though , the DAF’s are under powered, they can be tweaked at little though ,well the older engines could be, to give a moderate boost in BHP , as long as you didn’t mind the adblue system being disabled ,
If money was no object my ideal tractor unit would be configured as :CAB : Daf xf 105/6 Merc actros big space, MAN:XXL with a 730 or 750 engine and i shift auto box or even a manual gearbox, now you got a proper truck for both driver and operator
Pffft, id quite happily tour around europe in that thing.
I bet most of you toodle round in a bloody 410 anyway, and only dream of getting anything over 500 horses

DAF’s are under powered and always have been , even their flagship the 510 , no different to the 460, imo there is a difference with a bigger engine , especially if an auto box is fitted as well, even in manual mode they aren’t as good at pulling up hills due to the ratios of the gears

a 2 pound lump hammer swung 5 x the speed of a 10 pound sledge hammer is technically doing the same work … but there is something about the sledge hammer that’s going to get the job done properly.
Stick a ■■■■■■■ ISX15 605 in there and that’d b a cracker. Come on Paccar…

04 years after this post we have now sold this awesome truck. Best of luck to the new owner…
Could I “buy” a new big cabbed 460hp Renault TSeries/MAN TGX or Stralis Highway for similar money the new owner paid for that 4yr old top spec Scania?
Maybe even some change left over!!![emoji56]
Yes. You probably could have bought a brand new Renault for what I sold this 5 year old Scania for.
but would you. nope lol

Have you rang Luke V yetAnd why would Mr White snr or Jnr do that now ? Is Luke any different from any other Euro Driver ? The mind boggles in how people think!
His thinking is just fine. I spoke about wanting to do some work for Mr White in my last video and have spoken to them about it. Happy now?
that’s fine and well luke and get the whole people may feel attached to you via the videos etc. think its very strange other drivers ‘touting’ your services about on this site as a big lad am sure you have managed to, as you mentioned speak to people about any roles.
same as the suggestion about seeing you on super truckers and the likes.
war1974, I was thinking the as you. I was wondering whether Luke had used Tesco or Sainsbury for His grocery shop this week You’d think the Man might just be able to get on with his life
I mean I like his Videos, but I don’t need a running commentary on his life

I’ve been pulling Tesco trailers this week so it’s been Tesco. Off to Pembroke Dock with the double decker later just so everyone knows
Big Truck:
Would love to be in the yard when you told a Scania V8 driver he was for shifting into the 440 DAF!!![emoji12]
Prob just a big sigh of relief!

Though I did say that I didn’t need a running commentary, I feel so much more fulfilled that I now know
Good to hear that you landed some work sharpish Luke
Now I’m.just about to get up. Make eggs on toast before I head to Chepstow to pick up the unit. Then over to Avonmouth for trailer, Plymouth today.

All these nice, bright, shiny Scanias on show but saw Whites pretty ■■■■ poor, bog standard looking DAF last night…must be kept for those who don’t swallow!I’d be glad of the daf at mo. I was looking forward to gettin up close with the black 730 the other week when I realised it was whites, I caught it on a bad day tho as was ditched.
I dare bet this thread is bound for the 2000 replys marker

The Paddy (nice bloke btw) who comes into ours for the Manc trunk has a tag axled 164 and claims its nudging 800 brake and would pull a loaded trailer up the side of our warehouse!
Talking to him a few weeks back, he was saying it went into a ‘stealership’ for some minor work and told them not to let anybody near it with a laptop…needless to say, laptop was connected and his ‘map’ was erased…not bumped into him since but he was ‘in discussion’ with Scania
Gotta love the 164 men who come out with these nuggets. I tend to pop them in the pinch (more like an ocean) of salt category.
+1
The 164 580 was a great truck but they are now over 10 years old.
I would be willing to put my money where my mouth is that there is no 164 580 that would out pull my 750 Volvo at 44T up Reigate. That thing is a animal when it comes to power. I am a big Scania fan but the Volvo is better on fuel and will out pull a 730 Scania with ease.
I also giggle with all the… My 500 Scania is chipped to 800 bull [zb]. If you want more power… Buy a bigger truck !!

I’ve seen the results fuel was bad and something went most weeks saying that it had been thrashed in tipper work before hand. It was down rated a little not long after acquiring it.
