Our new Secretary of State for Transport..IS

paul b:
it just baffles me who these people are that earn so much and are so comfitable financially that they can vote for a party who’s made it quite clear they intend to increase income tax and therefore reduce everyones wages at a time when the cost of living is spiralling out of control?

As far as I know the only party that made it clear that they were going to increase income tax were Labour with their planned increase in National Insurance (for both employees and employers). The Conservatives have said they will scrap that rise.

Still at least Labour were honest about it this time round. The stunt they played (in 1997 I think?) when they said pre election “we will not increase income tax” and then put up NI in the first budget is one of the reasons I’ve never voted for them.

In practice I don’t think income tax will go up but I think it’s almost certain that VAT will be 19 or 20% in the very near future.

Paul

wasn’t it also a Labour government that said “we won’t increase interest rates”

well, in a way, they were right, they handed that responsibility to the bank of england :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

you may have not have noticed but interest rates are currrently the lowest in the history of the bank of england?

only time will tell exactly what misery the toffs will put on the working man but you can rest assured it’s not going to be nice, i’m just glad i’m in the position i am, all the kids have left home, i’ve got a very small mortgage with not to long to go, and no finance of any sort, if i was still an owner driver i’d be looking at selling everything shapish!
will the lib dems part of the farce have any effect? again only time will tell but it’s highly unlikely, will the tories do what they did last round in expecting the average bloke in the street to pay for their mistakes, you bet they will!
believe it or not i have no particular political persuation but i’ve been around long enough to know whats coming and it aint gona be pleasent!

Not on my credit card they aren’t! :imp:

They have only been in 5minutes, lets see what and how they do before we start slagging them, they cant be any worse than the ■■■■■■■■ crew of Brown,Darling and all the rest of that shower of Sh can they, or have I missed something  remember it was Darlings brainwave to fine us £1000+ for each illegal imm found in the back of our trailers sealed or not :imp: :imp:

yes, and why is that?

the previous Labour government has sent the country in to a ■■■■■■■ recession!!!

or has that little fact escaped your mind?

when Labour took over in 1997, they said they were not going to increase interest rates, they gave that power to the bank of england, who promptly put the rates up time and time again

so, as we are now 13 years later, i would presume that they have come down a bit :unamused:

Only for the poor zb’s like me who get sfa for our savings while the poor zb’s who have to borrow the same money which I’ve given them are being ripped off by a 400% + mark up by the banks which the zb LabCon zb’s gave the powers to set their own rates. :imp: :imp: :unamused:

Almost as bad as the zb recession which the LabLibCon zb’s sent us into in the late 1970’s and the 1980’s. :imp: :unamused:

So the north and south have finally found something which we can agree on. :open_mouth: :frowning: But if I go back into driving for a living it will be as an owner driver and if I’ve got to do the job at the same price as the Poles then zb em I’ll do it just to spite the zb’s  :open_mouth:  :imp:

Lets do the what the french do!!! blockade the ports…mmm

heres one for you if I g across the border to slovenia and get ciggaretes how many can I bring back with me legally? and slovenia is a full member of the EU… bet noone gets it right and there is a limit set by the EU

Antique chestnuts again about blocking ports, what is your protest? you have just been given a vote to your favourite political party or taken that vote away depending on your views.

As for the cigarettes I imagine the limit is 40 ■■■■, or 2 packets as it is in the rest of the EU for a lorry driver.

I prefer to let the new alliance look at the problems we face and come to a reasonable workable solution. rather than more of the same for another 5 years.

 for a wagon driver you seem to have far to much time on your hands!
lets face it people who vote do so based on their own agenda, if for instance you own a couple of properties that are bought and paid for or you’ve got a nice lump of cash sat some where that your not getting much of a return on you might well vote conservative on the other hand if your someone who goes out grafting every week to pay your bills you’d never vote for a party who’s first act in government will be to increase income tax and leave you with less money than you had before to pay the same bills which are now going to be more because they will also increase vat!
the tories will come in with increased taxes and reduced public spending, everyone will moan but grin and bare it for four years, labour will win the next election and spend more money they havn’t got and on it goes, same [zb] different day.

It has become harder since having to let go of the country pile, but unfortunately Paul you have got me wrong. My Sheffield home was Spinkhill Road rather than Dore. I lived in a Mercedes 1213 for a year and also lived in a compound in Africa.

I do have a lot of time on my hands since being made redundant last year but suffering from a hereditary bone disease have taken the opportunity to have an operation on the NHS. I can thank the Labour Government for introducing that. I can also thank the NHS during a Conservative government for attempting to save the lives of both my parents, they did it in different ways, the Conservatives cut bureaucracy while Labour hiked up the cost with excessive car parking charges.

Cradle to Grave health care will continue I hope, as it has since 1944.

While I have some free time at home I continue to follow my own brand of policies and politics using various media from broadsheet newspapers, websites and TV programmes and then make my mind up from the choices I am given.

I can thank a varying range of secondary education for that, overseen by two governments. 1969 - 1974

I’d say that the Cons cut a lot more than just bureaucracy in the NHS during their watch and most other civilised countries seem to have done a better job when it comes to health care than we do although it can only be a downward spiral if they don’t soon realise that it’s our industry which pays one way or another for our services and those services can only be at the level which our cheapest competitors provide without trade barriers and 1969-1974 covered one government not two or just a few months of a Labour one at most.

eh? interest rates hit a record high under conservative rule not labour and hit a record low under the last government once they’d quite rightly handed the power to those who knew what they were doing, you can’t have it all ways!

it’s actually a world recession thats the sole responsibility of reckless dealing by greedy bankers not just here but right across the western world, can you really blame the last labour government for that? the uk would’ve got caught up in that no matter who was in power! a lot of short memories on here, the last boom was also under the last government but i guess thats easily forgotten!
by hook or by crook the conservatives have gained power and although they didn’t produce any sort of economic policy before the election they’ll have to be seen to be doing something different, they WILL increase income tax and they WILL increase VAT that you can bet your life on, but they’ll attempt to smooth it over by increasing the tax threshold and limiting the vat increase to certain items and then claim that those on a low wage are actually better off, which they will be if they don’t drink, smoke or use any form of motorised transport!
as i’ve said it dosn’t really matter who won the elcetion, the pots empty, you can devide nothing as many times or in anyway you want, you’ll still have nothing.

That’s an oversimplification of the situation. The so called ‘world recession’ is what they want you to believe when what we’ve actually got is the rich man’s utopia of workers in the developed countries being thrown on the scrap heap so that workers/slaves in/from the underdeveloped countries can take over their jobs for a massive cut price wage rate. That’s why it’s the American economy which is going down the tubes first and the rest of us won’t be far behind while they’ve got more growth than they can handle in China just so long as those Chinese workers don’t start asking for late 1950’s (in real terms) American wage rates and if they do the result would make Orgreave look like a friendly tea party between the workers and the law.

Part Two

Who the Fox that

Justine Greening’s appointment as Transport Secretary provides David Cameron with a welcome boost to female representation in his Cabinet.

The Prime Minister has come under fire for failing to promote women, and Ms Greening becomes only the fifth female member of the 23-strong top team.

But it would be wrong to suggest that there is any element of tokenism in the elevation of a minister who has performed strongly in 17 months at the Treasury as economic secretary.

Ms Greening was appointed to her first ministerial job, with responsibility for environmental taxation, North Sea oil levies and tax credits, in Mr Cameron’s first government when the coalition was formed in May 2010.

She has earned a reputation as a robust performer, driving home the Government’s message that Labour’s caution over spending cuts would force interest rates up and endanger the recovery.

Aged 42, she entered Parliament in 2005 as MP for Putney, a traditionally Conservative seat in affluent south-west London which she snatched back from eight years of Labour control and successfully defended last year.

Ms Greening was born in William Hague’s home town of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and attended the local Oakwood Comprehensive School, making her one of a small band of state-educated ministers in the public school-dominated Cameron Cabinet.

She went on to study economics at Southampton University and earn an MBA at the London Business School, before working as an accountant at Price Waterhouse, pharmaceuticals giant GlaxoSmithKline and gas company Centrica.

She served as a Conservative member of Epping Town Council and unsuccessfully contested Ealing, Acton and Shepherd’s Bush in the 2001 general election. Within months of being elected to Parliament in 2005, Ms Greening was appointed as a vice-chairman of the Conservative Party with responsibility for youth.

In July 2007, she was appointed as a shadow Treasury minister, before being moved by Mr Cameron in January 2009 to the post of shadow minister for communities and local government. Ms Greening was the youngest female Conservative MP until Chloe Smith - who now replaces her as economic secretary - won the Norwich North by-election in 2009 at the age of 27.
