Otley Carnival

I have followed the parade through Otley on Carnival day many times over the years, supporting my son or my nephews and nieces as they walked with their respective schools, dressed up as who-knows-what. Today was the 30th Anniversary of Otley Carnival and from my new perspective of newly qualified HGV driver, and with no relatives in the procession today, I have to say the stars of the show were indeed the trucks and their drivers.

Immaculately turned-out tractor units from R&C Cooper, Jefferies and David Cooper crept through town, one moment drenched by a heavy rain and hail storm, the next moment bathed in sunshine… and I couldn’t resist taking a few photos! Christ, does this make me a spotter??

Big thanks to these fantastic, local haulage companies for supporting the carnival!

nice to see the old carnival processions, we have a may day one, up here in Penrith… it’s just a shame that the good old British summer puts a dampener on most of them.

Ah this reminds of the massive carnivals we used to have in my old home town, normally at least 30 floats from the local companies as well as many marching bands and classic cars with the while town out to watch and enjoy. Nowadays the joys of insurance has curtailed it massively. Such a shame.
