Spent years teaching science in a Catholic school and maths in a prison. Would never go back to teaching. Jobs gone. Pays crap, too much government interference, lack of respect from the public for a professional role, lack of respect from employers who are constantly spying on and questioning everything I do, golden age of limitless funding and resources gone, jobs dumbed down, ridiculously long hours and only the newly qualified fresh faced youngsters seem to get any enjoyment from it whilst the old hands who know what they’re doing are ignored.
Hmm, sounds familiar.
I have a BSc but have never found it of any use to me, so I was a driver for 50 yrs and never regretted a minute of it, by the way the BSc is a 10yd Breast Stroke certificate but sounds good after your name.

I’ve had my class 1 psv licence for near 30 years, one guy I knew on the buses did a law degree and got a distinction, he still drove buses until he retired. He just wanted to see if he could pass the test.
I also have a fair bit of office experience but I would never go back to Woking in an office (did about 8 years)
I have all my forklift truck tickets which is handy as I work for Linde delivering them
Qualified Electrician, and QS for previous companies. Would hate to go back to it now though.

My record was £22.20 LTD rates. And that was way back in 2006. The employed staff were on about £18. This was night work.
I interviewed with a motorsport company once who were paying £19 an hour for day work 6-2. Goodrich Aerospace pay absolutely silly money too. Was on pennies under £16 for day work at Rolls Royce too.
There’s money to be made for sure but I despised it to the point of me dreading the weekends ending. Can’t live like that for any money.

Set up my own business 15 years ago which now has distributors in the UK and rest of Europe for products used by all sectors of industry and we serve all UK Govt. agencies and large multi national corps, sounds grander than what it is, it is a niche product, so sales are small, but enough to provide a good living and enabled me to be financially secure and semi retire at 46…I just love driving lorries, so I went off and did that and do a couple of days a week.
I have spent my life running way from red tape/bureaucracy and futile paperwork/trails…It is now catching me up with the driving gig, so I have cut down on months worked and only do 72 days per year
Oh yeah…I used to be an “expert” and was used for Radio and TV news on hygiene and nutrition issues, until I told them to sling their hook or pay me
I have watched the destruction of an enjoyable workplace for all and seen it become a chore for all…H&S and the insurance industry have systematically destroyed all but a few decent professions and caused the decline of this country, both economically and psychologically.
Come the revolution they will pay dearly
