OT - Men Like Us?

A bit off topic, but about men like us.

Yesterday in West Cornwall we remembered men who left the comfort of their friends & village in 1981 to head out to sea to rescue the crew of a coastal freighter in trouble.

All these years later we still shed tears:

RNLI volunteers are incredible people. I salute them all. But I cannot understand why we, as a nation, rely on a charity staffed by volunteers and funded by donations to perform this vital service.
