with regards to the title, i understand they are autos but what do the pedals mean?
Scania has a pedal to depress when starting off/stopping as per normal manual?
Opti-cruise: Select gear and use a clutch to start/stop. Gears are changed by the truck.
I-Shift: Select gear and point the truck in whatever direction you want along with any other auto.
Scania Opticruise is available in two options
2 pedal, as per normal automatic
3 pedal, with clutch which is used only for pulling away from a stop and when coming to a stop. Otherwise as above.
Technically they are automated manual gearboxes rather than automatics. Apparently.

They are, or at least they don’t work in the same way as an automatic gearbox in a car. A car auto-box has a torque converter, there is no mechanical connection between engine and gearbox, just a fluid one, and the gearbox is completely different mechanically.
A truck with an automatic gearbox has the same clutch plate, pressure plate and thrust race system as a manual gearbox, and uses the same gearbox, essentially electronics and servos control the clutch and gear lever.
